Something to think about

I too was a hardcore using, console hating PC gamer. But in the past 6 months, I've 'grown' a little and have since left the PC upgrade race behind and brought a XBox 360. It was getting to expensive and the games that are available are really appealing, unlike 4 years ago.

I have been converted to a console gamer and haven't looked back since. It's easier for a PC gamer to go to a XBox 360 than to a PS3 as a XBox 360 is more like a PC (especially internally) and made by your favorite, loving company Microsoft.

Arg, having to choose between those 2, Doobiwan has a point when it comes to the resale value of it.mmmaaahhh man i love my pc gaming, so in the end like doobiwon states which platform has the most games you would like to play. The pc would render my vote, as im a FPS gamer which cant been taken to seriously on consols, yuk, cant aim for sh@t with tha analog.

but i have found that the consoles analog move to slow and as a result they make me suck... but throw in a kb & m im gonna own, so you come here ps3 as you support kb and m

I used to feel the same way. When I first played halo, then tried COD2, I sucked, it was horrid and my sentiments were exactly the same. But, once I had my 360 (I never intended on playing shooters on it originally) and took a bit of time to get into it, it comes quite naturally now, I'd say now it's as natural as kbms. It took me about 2 weeks before I'd call myself 'proficient'.

The beta impressions of Shadowrun are very interesting to read. If you haven't followed Shadowrun, it's the first game you can play on PC or 360 against PC or 360. And the conclusion is basically that it's a non issue.

On the other hand there's RTS, like BFMEII, while it's not perfect, the interface works quite well, my issues with the game are not with the controller interface. If you're "uber micro" then maybe, but if like me you tend to use the menu's the interface is to a degree better than PC.

Nothing beats a LAN event :) provided it is well organised. I don't see a bunch of people turning up with their 360's tho LOL :)

But yes there definately is a point to owning a console. My last console was a PS1 :/ so yes I can't really comment on the latest consoles.

Still upgradeability is definately an argument as well :/ Instead of blowing R8000.00 on a PS4 one day maybe I just get another gfx card :/ and memory. Eish its such a headache this arguement lol.

I must say my step sister owns a ps2 and those gfx have always looked disgustin to me, plus amazingly some of the games lag...wtf??

au contraire ;)
The 360 is ideal for LAN'ing and 360 LAN is pretty big locally. Have a look: http://www.xbox-360.co.za/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=48
There's even an official 360 LAN backpack :p

Have you had a chance to see a 360 in action running something decent like Gears of war, or GRAW2? I think you might be surprised. The 360 runs a derivative of the ATI R600, that's on par with the nvidia 8800 series you're considering for a PC. No ones really pushed the PS3 yet so I can't comment, it has an nvidia G70 (think 7800), so it's not a slouch either.

I say if you have a pc(running widows), the console of choice would be the 360. I'm getting mine at the end of the month.:) The 360 can be used as media extender and when Live for windows officially launches you will have one gamertag for your 360 and pc. You will need a gold membership for playing 360 against 360 or pc against 360. The whole service will become integrated and would be nice to own both systems. My pc will then be used for FPS and RTS while the console will be running sports, action and platformers.

You can buy a 360 and a 8800 GTS for R6000.:D

The only reason I would I like a ps3 is for the blu-ray, but I will rather buy a standalone HD-combo player for playing HD movies.
