Oh well - enjoy the ANC having a two-thirds majority again in 2019 :). Just remember the media as well as people on here who seem to be so easily impressed by words rather than action are enabling this. Let's just conveniently 'forget' all of the ANC's multiple and long-standing failures in education, health, infrastructure etc.

Because you can’t move to Australia?

Her moving would depend on the ability of her company to relocate (she is shareholder at 60 something % of Signya).

Her assets are tied to the company, I doubt she’d have a lot in liquid assets that would allow her to move quickly.

I’m probably much more free to move than she is, I only have a car to sell and bags to make.

No what I'm criticising is the massive amount of praise that is already heading towards Ramaphosa even though he has done very little (yet). I'm not saying he won't do anything (that's stupid - all presidents do something), but I feel like it's already 'decided' by the media that Ramaphosa will be a good president. One needs to take a wait-and-see approach first. Also, given the way the way the ANC operates, Ramaphosa, I believe will have far less freedom to do what he wants that what is commonly believed. He will be operating within the confines of what the ANC like to call "structures". That is all.

Even if the “only” thing he does is cracking down on corruption (which will probably rebalance the budget), the country would already be in a much better shape, and that would be enough to make him a “good president”.

Yes, someone sends her son to a university in the top 20 in the world. There are maybe 3 universities in the UK better than it, 0 in Australia , 0 in New Zealand , 1 in France, 0 in Canada.

At it's best in the history of South Africa where do you think SA universities stand exactly in that hierarchy?

And he has a British passport. But he lives in luxury in the leafy Cape Town southern suburbs, so why would he follow Magda. Bet he has a gardner, maid and dinner is served for him.

Problem is, as it’s unlikely he’s lived in the UK for any length of time, he seems to think Jacob Rees Mogg is an example of a normal Brit (I’m sure Rees Mogg actually does have a gardener, maid and a butler to serve his dinner to him), while the majority of people just think he’s an archaic dinosaur with 18th century beliefs and a touch of xenophobia.

Except that if you believe (as she does) that all is going to be fine and dandy in SA because of Cyril, then there'd be no need to send her son (at great expense) overseas. Was this sending her son to Columbia a tacit acceptance that she thinks the quality of SA higher education is collapsing?

People study overseas for other reasons too like world experience. Are you saying UCT is ****?

Depends to what UCT is being compared. I think it is a good middle-ranking university to which many people in SA aspire to get into, but obviously it's not good compared to the calibre of students from Oxford, Cambridge, MIT, Harvard, Columbia etc.

Did you not read my post? It's in the world's top 20 universities. I even named a few developed world countries that don't have a university that good.

By your understanding, if someone from the US sends their kid to Cambridge in the UK...that's a tacit acceptance the USA higher education is collapsing. Or someone living in UK send their kid to Yale or Princeton...that's a tacit acceptance that UK higher education is collapsing?

I dunno which universe you live in. Check university league tables and see where UCT stands in comparison to Columbia or most developed world universities. It would fall within the schithole section

Not really. Times Higher Education ranked 980 universities, UCT was 148th.

What is relevant is to go back and see where all the leading Universities in SA were BEFORE 1994. Then look at where our Universities now rank. You WILL be in for a shock! We have gone straight down the drain!
