Sony Ericsson P990i

I don't know if you saw from another thread I posted - but yeah I am using SwissManager - made a typo on my last post, by "SW" I meant SwissManager which tends to disappear mysteriously quite frequently.

As for the extent of Vodafone branding, I have not had the chance to physically use a generic version yet so I do not know all the differences, but what I do know is the graphic interface is different, instead of vibrant and colourful it's that boring red and beige/grey Vodafone seems to think is hot.

Also, where the generic model has an empty 'desktop' with 4 shortcuts, with Vodafone has decided to stick you with the choice of Main Menu, or Today screen, with your oh so nice background image always faded behind the menu's. The only way to really see your background is either in Flip Closed mode when you dial a number, or to go into your gallery and stare at your picture for amusement, eh.

Also I noticed on some reviews on the web that you can set your main menu to either icon view or list view, and I have not yet seen this on the Vodafone one so I don't think it's an option. Furthermore, on generic models you can customise the 'task manager' button on the right side of the phone, (aka the "@" button) - this is not possible on the vodafone one, not from all the exploring i've done.

Another gripe I have is that on Vodafone's version the signal-strength 'icon' is not right in the corner, it's a little more to the right, so you have this empty space that is there for no good reason and it annoys me. Overall my MAIN complaint is that the visual aesthetics of the phone is ruined by Vodafone's boring designs and colours, no cool animations, no vibrant colours, it's just - bland.

How much vodafone branding is on your phone?

Are you using SwissManager ?

What is SwissManager? Is it something similar to the old File Manager you had to use on the P800 to close background apps?

Kingrob, I never used filemanager, but I had SMan ( Symbian Manager ) on my trusty old P910.( Now that was a superb app ! )

It ( SwissM ) was written primarily to deal with the RAM shortcomings and memory leaks on the P990. It cleans up idle apps running in the background, but also offers a decent file navigation / management system ( SE never offer a decent one with their smartphones ! There is a task switcher with the P990 but SwM is better ).

SwissM was released as freeware, SM Pro costs a bit.

SwissM is the only app currently that keeps the P990's running on an even keel...:p

( Now, if you were going for the P990  , rather than holding out grimly for the N95 :p , it's one app you'd *have* to install )

Hi,

I went into an MTNSP store on Saturday to check their stock availability, and they told me that MTN had withdrawn their stock of the P990i due to problems with the phone reading the MTN sim card....can someone, perhaps MTN DD, confirm whether this is true or not?

They also said that they expect stock in about 2 months time

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've been reading on this forum, it doesn't seem like anyone who has the phone with MTN is having any such problems.

Bru you almost gave me a heart attack:sick: I contacted SE and said that the rumour is not true......What they did say however is that the new stock will only be arriving end Nov beginning Dec.
Maybe this is why MTNDD is so quiet?????????
I'm Staring to get a little P@#$ED off now. Knowing that it isn't MTN's fault. Still it doesn't make me feel any better.

Thanks for the info...sorry about the near heart attack :o

Now i'm gonna scream at that MTN store for lying to me!!!

Thank you, most caring & benolevent queen. :)

Bug found. When on a call...no matter how much I select the speakerphone..it just won't turn on. Can anyone test theirs and tell me if their call is transfered to speakerphone?
Doesn't matter if it is flip open or closed..speakerphone just won't turn on.
have gone into the service menu, and the speakerphone is working..just unable to use it.
Hmm...

What a pleasant surprise..........................

MTN have gone the way beyond. I just received a call from MTN, a Mr Tulani, and guess what! He has faxed me my contract upgrade, and I DO NOT EVEN HAVE TO PAY THE ZAR649 to get the phone. And my phone is on its way from the MTN warehouse.

Thank you MTN.:D

I think MTN 'saved' you the R649, because you'll need to purchase some apps to make this phone work properly, or just ok.

do u have contact details ... cause I want to get he phone as well ... but don't feel like paying R649 in for it

You all are soooooo lucky... I am still waiting for Nashua Mobile to get off there a$$e$ and get some stock....

So those of you who are still P990less dont dispear, you are not the only one...

I am getting so sick of waiting... the minute they give you hope and say you will get it soon, they just tear you down again by saying... Oh sorry... its not our fault...

Anyways... So how are those of you who actually have one enjoying it?
