Sony Ericsson P990i

hey guys.... 3 weeks into owing this phone im suddenly getting kernel errors

aaargh

and im doing NOTHING different

got latest firmware etc

Hang in there, kvi - don't give up!!

In January we'll hopefully get the updated firmware and our frustrations with the P990i might be a thing of the past... ;)

*I sometimes get kernel errors when closing or adding contacts, but that's about it?

hey im accessing this forum on my phone while im on holiday in the bushveld. and i must say. i am using more and more the qwerty keyboard. so different and better designed than the p910s.
another question... is there a way to teach the p990 to trust the java gmail app ? you no how each time when you launch gmail it asks for midlet permission. is it the se firewall?
would be nice to bypass that step each time.

ps seems like the recall was a hoax. according to google

@kvi

I'm also getting more and more used to my QWERTY keyboard. Starting to write SMSe faster with it than with stylus.

I also want to know how to permanently give Gmail Java app access rights to the net. But what I've read on other forums, this might not be possible. Anyone out there who knows?

dont worry king... i wll never give up on ericsson. been using them for decades now. :)

stll remember my first ericsson, no idea what it was called but it had a flip up aerial. anone remember that model?

happy new year all p990 owners :)

That's great news, kvi!

Don't think I'll ever want a Nokia again, my preference will always be Sony Ericsson. Maybe it's because the SE P800 was such a radical departure from what I perceived a mobile phone to be and showed me what it really could be - was quite amazing when I got Doom running on it... ;)

I recently bought Faithless : To All New Arrivals, copied it to my P990i & listened to it whilst lying in bed (was very late, couldn't use the hi-fi) & you know what? The sound was absolutely fantastic, hard to imagine I'm using my phone! Fitted with a 8GB memory stick, this phone can be a serious mp3 jukebox...

The P990i is so many things and manages to really shine at all of them - the RDS radio is so clear, the camera is great, the card scanner works a treat, voices are extremely clear when on the phone, just too many functions to mention...

Now give us a firmware upgrade that stops the memory leaks & a better battery & we've got the best phone on the planet!! :)

*Yes, the recall was a hoax...

Sometimes I need to do 'sms admin', screening through messages and then deleting 10, or 20, at a time.

When I select, say about 20 smses, I don't get the 'delete' option in the menu & I have to open each sms to delete it.

Anyone else getting this?

Hi Evereybody & a happy and prosperous new year to all!
Can anybody help me with this:
When sms's are received, they can be moved to separate folders created by the user. I also need to save my 'sent' sms's in separate folders for easier reference and I can't seem to find an option to do this. Is there a way? Thanks

Hey King,

Try hitting the del button on the QWERTY keyboard once you have marked all the sms' you want to delete...

I find this to be the quickest :)

Regards and a Prosperous New Year to All!!! :)

Hi Cha Cha,

When in FO Mode, go into Messages... in the top right corner of the screen you will see a folder icon with a drop down arrow. Click on this and it will bring up a menu which has a Edit Folders option... This should allow you to create new folders, etc.

In FC mode, go into Messages... push the "more" button, scroll down to "View Folder" and the Select Edit Folders...

I hope this helps :)

Let me know if you get stuck

Thanks, Nixxon, it works.

My mistake was that I pressed 'ALT' before I pressed the 'DEL' button, because the 'DEL' function is in blue. For some reason in messages it overrrides the 'BACK' button. :)

anybody miss this feature?

small but rather irritating....

i stand corrected but on my p910 in sms mode when i went thru the inbox to read mail, all unread mail was an unopened envelope, when it was read it became an opened envelope so you knew what you had read or hadnt read. on the 990 all mail is the same icon, read or unread.

am i missing something here?

Don't actually know what you mean, kvi. If the sms is still unopened, it displays a little envelope in your top left corner till you read it? Also, on my phone the unopened messages are all in bold font?

About to get a P990i - Questions...

Hey all

Only 3 weeks to go and then I can get my new P990i - hopefully at exactly the same time the new firmware comes out! A few questions (I am currently a happy P910i user)
- how is the QWERTY keyboard working out?
- are Handy Day/Handy Safe/Handy Expense worth buying?
- anyone using the phone with the flip removed?
- any decent updates to the Vodafone firmware, or should I unbrand?

Thanks
Bruce

Hi BruceM,

Welcome... All I can say is RTFF (Read the Funky Forum)...
It will answer probably all your questions! :)

@Kingrob sorry, I couldn't resist! LOL :)

Good Luck with your wait and we look forward to you getting your phone :) We have alll been there!! :)

ran handy day on my p800 AND p910. now i have it on the 990 .... but i dont seem to use it anymore. almost feels like the new OS and layout of everthing is better than handy day now. calenders are sweet and so is accessing of absalutely everything you want. what i do miss about HD is being able to "map" a contact to desktop so that you can sms da wife with one button

hmmm time to use da handy day again i think

Mmmm ... just read on my-symbian that there's new firmware released. My USB cable is at work, so I can't check if it's available for our phones yet, but I think it will be.

Seen some good reviews about the new firmware.

Yup heads up guys new firmware out

I've seen some mixed reviews ( faster UI, no transitions, Opera leaves a smaller memory footprint, but still memory leaks...)

I think I'll wait a week or so and see what transpires ;)

It's such a PITA (pain-in-the-ass) to upgrade your phone's firmware & if it's not THE firmware we've been waiting for, not so sure I want to go through the whole exercise.

Well, let me hop over to My Symbian and start reading...

*Good to see the queen contributing on this thread again, but she's getting a bit lazy - no links to the firmware? :(
