Sony Ericsson P990i

finally.... having the old firmware is a big plus.... im smiling, well a little

Found another problem with new firmware. While on a call to retrieve a contact i normally pressed more then scrolled down to task manager then selected Contacts. Now it doesn't allow me to select task manager.

Yep, SE fixed a lot of things & faaked up a few other things. :(

*Here is another bug - the battery level indicator icon shows I've got almost a full battery, but when I go to 'status', it tells me I've got 57% battery life left.

No more Christmas for the SE UIQ3 team!

No, mine was here in 5 working days.

Check the tracking number on the email that you've received from them when you ordered.... if not, email them.

*Just remember that, because of the huge amount of mail & parcels over December, there might have been a delay.

Runs Mac OSX - now's your time to switch !

This might even knock the P990i off it's perch for me....;)

Seriously, this will change the whole cellphone landscape forever

That is quite amazing, aqualung! I mean, Windows Mobile is still struggling to incorporate the 'phone' bit into their Windows Mobile OS, but this really looks like a 'global killer'! I want one now!! Also time then to say 'farewell' to SonyEricsson...

*Worried that I might get used to the interface and buy a Mac as well!

If you turn the phone sideways it seems to switch automatically to landscape mode ...?!

( sounds almost like a 'Minority Report' type interface )

The "halo effect" from the iPod will be nothing compared to this...

So, am I correct by saying that the iPhone doesn't have a stylus, just a touchscreen? The one piccie shows a stylus, but then it says 'who wants a stylus'?

I mean, what would the screen look like after one day's use & a jam doughnut?

*Apple can add a stylus for me - I'm sure they will.... ;)

3 things bug me though:
1. NO hardware qwerty keyboard!
2. It would take ages to get to this country as it is only launched on cingular in the US, mabey when i upgrade in two years:D
3. only availible thru cingular and only availible in asia in 2008, that means it will take even longer to get here!!!!!! Damn!!!( thats if cingular decides to realese it in SA!!!)

You can always buy one in the States, but don't know if it will be a tri/quad band phone?

Lo all...

Kingrob... Happy Birthday!!! Late I know, but still.

Just to let you all know... I had my first restart for better performance today. First time! O well...

Anyway, already looking forward to a firmware update... Yet again. :D

You could but it will be alot more expensive couse those prices are with a 2 year cingular contract. I am actualy not sure if you could purchase the fone without being a cingular customer. Why would they only be releasing the fone through cingular partners in 2008 in asia. Does that mean we have to wait for cingular to partner with our providers? i hope you can buy it from america though:)

I'm sure you will be able to buy an unlocked/stock version of the iPhone one day... ;)

Thanks, MJB! :)

Yes, I'm also waiting for the next firmware update, after updating my phone a week ago...LOL. :)

Really wonder what's going on at SonyEricsson HQ & UIQ3 Team HQ? I'm SURE Sony Ericsson's bosses must be worried about their 'flagship' phone & the bad publicity it's getting?

*Wonder if the managers at Sony Ericsson & Sony use P990is? Can't believe that for one second....I mean, you can't do business with an unstable phone, right?

Yeah Kingrob... I wonder which phones they do use?

In all honesty, I am happy with every aspect of the phone except the software issues which are frustrating me now. I am enjoying the design (Even the keyboard, which I thought to be way to small in the beginning), infact I use the keyboard more and more. Even the battery I find to be fine (After disabling a couple of things). I just wish that the software was up to scratch... I mean, you should be able to at least close an application when finished, without having to go to task manager or Swiss Manager.

I guess that I had 2 many expectations from the updated firmware.

Well, then it makes two of us. ;)

Don't think 'expectations' is the right word, rather 'hope' - we all live in hope that this expensive toy might one day become the phone we pictured in our minds when we received the silver box, with the P990i letters on it, over the counter.

I mean, come on, we're sitting with SE's flagship phone in our hands and don't know when the phone is gonna crash or restart again - already upgraded with latest available SE firmware.

My P990i was part of a new ProCall 300 contract (had to pay R999 cash), but can you imagine how someone must feel that paid R6000 cash for it?

That sucks. :(

The fone software does have alot of problems, dont get me wrong but that feature were a program still runs in mem even when not in use is a feature used in most smartfones incl wm5 and s60. It is part of the multitasking suit in which programs load much quicker coz they are already in mem. Although this is bad for the p990 coz of the mem leak, when SE fix the mem leak it will actually be a well utilized feature in that it will help create a faster ui.

@Kingrob

Lets hope that day comes quickly:) or that the p1000 will be even more awesome:p
