Well I had the chance of feeling a real one in hand but was not on. Pity. Screen slightly smaller, different keyboard but the best is the Wifi feature I am after, Will wait and see. Thanks for the link!

PS reading those comments ? Nah I would not bother about them. A lot of trolls mostly not knowing what to say! The main problems in the review was due to " It turned out though that the test handset is obviously a rather early prototype" but I would not worry. The only baddy is no edge? Is that so important if it has WiFi and 3G as well as Bluetooth?? Please comment on Edge Pro's and cons for our local situation!

Am keen enough for this phone to switch to Vodacom if they get it first ( am overdue for upgrade )...if MTN cares about losing a customer...:sick:

We do care, but we don't have any contol over when phone's come in.

Let me be more specific...:)

If MTN would issue one official statement about this phone's release date, I would wait for it.

What I have found more frustrating than waiting for the phone is the absolute lack of consistency between MTN stores...every one has a different story...and most seem to be three to four weeks behind. For instance despite the posting here about two ( three ?) weeks ago that the phone had been approved and MTN were awaiting stocl, most stores even up to last week Friday ( ! ) were repeating the story that it was still awaiting approval.

That's a poor show.

A united front with a definite release date is needed !
 
It's gonna take so long to release this phone is SA, that the P1000 will already be launched in Europe and SA will still be waiting for the P990.

Pathetic.

What is coming first ? P990 or JasJam ? i actually looked at the jasjam because 54 mbps wireless (not that it matters) and it can take skype which would be really usefull !!
 
Forgive me if I dont hold my breath just yet... :)
I am merely waiting to see what happens... If the 990 doesn't come out this month I am changing to something else... Still not sure what but I am sick of waiting for this phone.

Like someone said above, by the time the 990 comes the P1000 will have been released overseas... LOL

But thanks to all of you that keep us up to date! Its really appreciated!

So MTN Data Dude, does MTN have any indication yet as to when this phone will be in stores?

I have unfortunately been looking on the SE website again and looked at the specs on the phone and as to be expected I suppose, I have fallen in love with it all over again!

The desperation is beginning to set in and I really need some solid info or timelines to keep me going...

The P990 is available, R 7499, quite hefty, it's not Vodacom stock, has local Sony Ericsson warranty through Ixia.

The JasJAM has just arrived, not through Leaf as yet,

Vodacom have the P990i on their latest VSP pricelist, it's expected in the next 2 weeks, there is no word of it on their Daily Stock Updates as yet
 
I currently have a SE P910i. This phone gave as in such NO TROUBLE at all!!!:D Excuse the grammar but jislaaik, it's a good phone!

Then I got the world's best phone! A Nokia N70!!! :eek:

Crap crap crap! It's so slow!!!! It has the lates ver5 software but it's horrible!

I don't even use it! Back to the good old P910i...

So then my mouth was watering for the P990!!!!

But I'm a bit confused! The new Palm 750V is a killer!

Vodacom had it's UK launch on 2 Oct and the rest of the world to follow soon!

My cell contract is with VC so I am seriously thinking of getting this little angel!

We have not had anything confirmed from SE. From our order of units we'll get batches allocated this month. We have not received any ETA for these batches of the units.

*rant* I think it is TERRIBLE that it took SA networks so long to complete compliance(?) testing for this phone. It's basically obsolete before we're getting it! Definitely not as appealling as it seemed months ago...

Regarding the 750V -
a) it runs windows (but hey that's just me) ;)
b) no hsdpa
c) no video calling
d) reports of poor battery life

It's time to upgrade, but to what... ? :(
