No experience at all - I've used Nokia, Motorola and Samsung (briefly). Sounds like I really need to get my hands on one. Probably one of the older Pseries will be available at one of the centres near me.

At any rate, the Nokias (E60, E61, E70) also run the Symbian OS so I could take a peek at one of those too to get an idea.

(Sorry, couldn't resist that :p )

There is a hidden service menu in Sony Ericsson’s UIQ 3 smartphones. It can be accessed in Flip closed mode on the main screen (so called "Activity menu") or using the virtual phone keypad in Phone application. In emergency (e.g. when you need to reformat the phone) the engineering menu can also be accessed on the "Enter PIN" screen after turning the phone on.

To activate the hidden menu close the flip or use the virtual keypad and enter the following combination:

jog dial up * jog dial down jog dial down * jog dial down *

The Service information screen contains following options: Service information, Service tests and Format internal disk.

Service information menu displays information about phone model, software (firmware) versions, IMEI number of the device, information about sim-locks and a list of supported GSM/UMTS bands and speech codec rates.

Service tests section lets you test various hardware components of your device, including speakers, microphone, keyboard, camera, touch screen, vibrator, memory card and more.

The "Format internal disk" function lets you fully format the internal storage memory of your phone. This is useful if you want to get rid of all your data (e.g. when you're going to sell the phone) or if you are experiencing problems with the device. Be careful with this feature.

How are u finding the phone?
Been playing a bit of Vijah Singh. Really excellent. I also went to a buddy of mine earlier today. Showed of my new baby. He was very impressed with the bus. card scanner. The result was perfect, put all the right details in the right places, up to the company website.
I havent had any major issues that i can complain about. I'm just nailing the battery, but suspect it will get better as i stop fiddling with the phone every 5 mins.
Maybe we can all list the additional proggys that everyone has installed, will be interesting to know who uses their phones for what.

I finally got to switch on my P990i!

Well, I'm very impressed with the P990i, but I also realised there is a steep learning curve from the P910i's OS.

Love the RDS FM Radio, Media player, screen quality,Camera is brilliant (I guess anything will be better than a VGA camera), menus are fast - and lots more.... :)

When I went to the update service to upgrade the firmware, it actually told me I've got the lastest firmware - very nice. I installed Swiss Manager via the 'dashboard' sync app, but can't find it anywhere on the phone. Before I could locate it, the battery was drained. :(

I plugged in the charger to recharge it & the screen just refuses to dim - it's still in very bright mode & I am wondering how long it's gonna take to fully charge it - the screen just keeps on sucking the battery dry?

Anyone with a P990i experiencing the same problem?

The light stays on when charging on all of them it seems... And as for the battery, it takes about an hour or so.

Swiss Manager can be found under tools with the flip open.

Might not be a dud! Just remove battery, replace it and start charging it again. It is most prob. just in a funny loop in the software (potential bug).

You might even switch on your phone (if it managed to charge a little in the mean time) before charging it.

Investigate this before sending the phone back (and wait another week)

Yes, I was a bit worried that it will not be the phone that I wanted it to be, but so far I'm very impressed! :)

I have set screen saver to 'none' under settings, wonder if that might be the problem?

How long did you charge it the first time?

*Even the battery looks expensive! :D

My first charge was for 4 hours... After that I let it go flat and gave it a charge for 8 hours... Today the phone is on 47% and it is the end of day 2 with a decent amount of use...

As for the screen being on.. I phoned SE and they told me it was normal. Having said that, I have not charged it with the phone on before...That might make a difference.

Cool, will charge it for 4 hours and then play with it again!

Now I must go and do some RTFM, cos I guessed the default security code is 0000, which was wrong, then I tried 00000 - and it's still wrong. (Haven't tried 44444, too scared the phone locks itself!) Think I got confused with my Motorola V3 Razr's security code... :(

What has made a difference in battery life for me... Disable 3G (I do not get a signal), turned screen brightness to 60%, and disabled W/Lan...

Just disable what you do not use...
