Sony Ericsson P990i

The fone also has big icons and is very accurate with the touch screen that you dont always need the stylis in fo, you can use your fingers.
 
Just be careful when you use your fingers not to let your nails damage the screen, or scratch it.

Screen protector's good for preventing minor damage, though.
 
I do, i have that md screen protector and never let my nails near the screen. if you take the flip off, the keyboard + jog dial is just as useful for navigating, the enter key becomes the 'ok' button and so fourth.
 
Does anyone know if you can do internet banking on p990 opera 8 browser, also i get alot of errors when using the standerd browser. it loads the page to a certain point then stops and gives me an error. anyone else have this problem?

Opera is the standard browser on the P990i?

Version 8.65 is what you get with the latest firmware.
 
Sorry, my last post was a bit confusing, when i said standerd , i meant opera 8. i have not upgraded my firmware yet. Did you get errors on your old firmware for opera 8 when it only loads some of the web page?

Yes. And it would seem the new one is not perfect either - it closed the session when I tried to login to MyADSL. :eek:

But, it might be because I was listening to a mp3 while opening the browser. I know the browser sucks a lot of RAM, will test it sometime tomorrow with all other apps closed.

FoRmFacTor - I do internet banking vie the links provided by either MTN or the meerkat from their wap sites

MTN loaded and Vodacom4u respectively

Thanks for the tip on the added speakerphone functions. Very cool. Some thinking went into the new FW.

With both flip on and flip off the phone is very functional. And I must admit the phone looks a lot more sexy with the flip removed. Looks like a proper PDA. It takes some time to get used to do the basics (like dialing, scrolling thru menus) with the flip off, but after a while it's not bad. As Formfactor says - the icons are big and touchscreen accurate enough to browse the phone with your thumb. Make sure you have the MF Screen Protector though.

So I upgraded my FW today as well, and I am pleasantly surprised so far. Menus are not much faster as I hoped (was expecting too much I guess) due to the transition effects still enabled, but the phone is definitely more stable and responsive. Memory leak still exists, but the memory controller works much better and effective. Phone can now even operate without Swiss Manager Pro.

Small things like the menu icons in the FC mode have been fixed. They looked badly 'scaled' (squashed) before, but now are perfectly rendered.

Thumbnails are still fuzzy (!), but slightly improved. Can't imagine why they didn't fix this.

Video playback greatly improved. Loads my 300Mb MP4 movie files nearly instantly, and forward / backward skipping much more responsive.

Address book also seems to be faster regarding opening and dialing of contacts. Haven't had time to test adding etc.

FC (flip closed) mode seems also to be faster.

The autofocus on non-macro mode also seems to be slightly improved, but I want to test this more. The pressing of the camera (shutter) button also feels different. Seems to be they worked a little bit on everything.

The Opera browser also much improved, but still very memory hungry as Kingrob mentioned. Not too stable yet. But better. I think they will improve on this even further in the future.

This so far my findings after 6 hours with the new FW. Aqualung, I think it's safe to consider the upgrade.

Lastly, it seems that Backups in general seems to be working much better. Did a full Backup twice without any error messages by Comms Suite.

bruce... voda will sell you only branded versions... that means they are meerkat branded but NOT vodaphone branded. so same software, just horrible launch screen..... oh and it also means you can t upgrade your firmware YET

Okay - so do I specifically have to ask for it to NOT be Vodafone branded?
 
bruce, you need a special cable for SEtool to work. which is not available here in SA, unless you shipped it out on ebay or something....

rather wait for the davince team to release the p990 debrand. and with them its with the standard usb cable. davinci team debranded my w810 very nicely, but its still a couple days till they release the p990 debrand.
 
Good news! Do you LOSE any functionality on Vodacom network if you debrand?
 
only have to reload vlive settings to enjoy/endure vlive.
 
hey, just a stupid question but is anyone having problems accessing the esato website and forums?:confused:
