I had that problem with my previous version of Firmware. Are you on the latest version?

That's OK, I'm pretty clueless myself :) . I played around until I got something right.

First, what is your setup (infrastructure)? Is your PC connected to your wireless router via cable (and the router is your link to the outside world), or is your PC at home connected to the outside world via ADSL, and your Wireless Router/Access Point is there for other computers to connected to your main PC (forming a wireless lan)?

Also, make sure you have the WEP encryption key at hand when needed to enter it later during setup. It is usually a 5 or 9 digit ASCII (alphanumeric) key (password).

Also, if you have a Proxy as Wynsam mentioned above, try to find out what's the IP address of your Proxy Server.

When you know all this, we can try to go further.

Ok, here goes my attempt to explain my set up so bear with me!:D

1. My iburst modem is connected to my wireless router.
2. my wireless router is connected via serial cable to my computer which acts as the main computer if such a thing exists.
3. my wireless router then connects 2 other computers in the house wirelessly.
4. i accsesed the router and found an ip addres and mac address, not sure if this is what u are looking for.
5. i also found my wep encryption.

Thanks - that's pretty much the info we need. I've got a Ad-hoc wireless LAN setup at home, so it's slightly different.

We've got a similar wireless setup (like yours) at work, so tomorrow I'll connect my p990 to my company's wireless network, take notes, and get back to you. It *should* be relatively straight forward..

I'm stuck in meetings most of the day, so hopefully I'll get back to you by tomorrow evening. In the mean time, with the above info in mind, play around a bit more. Under Wireless Connections, go through the new network setup wizard, try different options (Scan, choose "Structured" and "ASCII 5 (or 9 depending on your personal WEP key) digit Encryption") and see what happens. Playing around is the best way to learn. That's what I did last time I connected at work.

Ok Got my P990 on thursday ordered on Tuesday thanks to MTNDD:cool:

I have ordered on Mtn and using Vodacom Service Provider so no Meerkat
Im very happy with the phone and must say can still type sms's pretty quick with the keypad.

I have also had abt 4 restarts due to "performance increase" lolol but only on applications. I usually close unused applications on Task manager so keeping the phone good.

Surfing is a breeze no issues as yet even tried at the Durban int and perfect:)

I have ordered the SP but anyone with the crystal case yet? is it worth it??

Guys some questions pls..

How do i check mem usage (ram:confused: ) ?

Are there any tips and tricks?

where can i find software without trials? :)

Also waiting for the R9 firmware upgrade for my vodap990:( ! The freeware SM and great themes (eg northern lights:cool: from UIQ.com) makes it bearable. Beside the slow speed its gr8! I'm sure Tweak Peaks will help but I'm willing to wait and see what else develops.
BTW: I'm thinking of using vodasure band 3 or 4 (R79 or R109 for cover of R5k or R7.5k), any advice?
 
Everyones complaining abt the Vodacom software, what is so bad abt it?

Pros and cons???

According to SE website I had the latest firmware and did not have to do upgrade. I did FW upgrade any way. Current version:
Phone: CXC 162037 R7A001
Bluetooth: CXC 162058 R4F01
Organizer: CXC 162036 R3B01

I really getting tired of all the software issues.

I have the original MTN (generic / unbranded) P990. So I could upgrade thanks to MTN. You will see much earlier in this thread I'm one of the first to report on the reported problems with branded p990s.

@ ErnestF

Bad news. Because of you have a vodacom branded P990, you can't upgrade to the latest FW version (Organizer: R4A13). Just ask KVI. He's still sulking.. You are still at R3B.. Cr@p on vodacom for that. You are one of many Vodacom frustrated P990 users (and many other branded international customers around the world).

That's why you still have Backup&Restore problems. Since I could upgrade from R3B.. to R4A13 on the 4th of Jan 07, my Backup&Restore problems disappeared (for now at least).

Try to get your phone unbranded at a Vodacare shop. I've read somewhere this might be possible (since Vodacom is aware of the problem).

I had a crazy day - I couldn't look into the WIFI connection at work. Will look tomorrow and let you know if I have some tips to get you connected.
 
Has anyone taken their P990i to a Vodacare Shop to get it unbranded? The guys working there doesn't look very bright.
 
I had taken my p990i to Vodacare Umhlangha (KZN) . They had no problem when i asked them for the phone to be unbranded. The technician there battled to do it and told me it had to be sent to Midrand. After one week I called Vodacare Midrand and they told me the phone had to be sent to Advanced Repair Centre (ARC), as they could not do it. After two weeks i got the phone back unbranded. Now my CDA had changed from 162008/62 R4A01 to 162007/2 R4A09
 
Err...does anyone know what handsfree profile version the P990i supports?

I know it has Bluetooth 2.0, but what handsfree profile does it have?

i have upgraded to R4A09 yesterday

I see now i can actually use the speaker phone option
phone seems a bit quicker
didnt have any performance restarts yet

whilst charging last night it tuned off without warning bugger!!

Hey Joey

U can't unbrand the phones yourself, as you need the correct cable and software to do so, and the websites that do provide this stuff does not cater for the P990i as yet - last time I checked anyway.

Best is to get your phone to Vodacare in Midrand - if you live in GP it's definately worth it to go there - I took mine in during late Nov after much drama with the Vodafone software, and it's well worth the trip! Voda software is only useful if you like their Vodafone Live! crap which I think is a ripoff.

last year vodacom were unbranding p990s but then they received their "own" version of unbranded firmware.... which is affectionately called the "meerkat firmware" on this thread. its not vodafone firmware but it IS vodacom firmware. i have had them reflash my phone now twice hoping to get the totally clean version....

but anyday now hoping the davinci team will release the debrander. davinci is the ONLY group in the world that does debranding with your standard usb cable. other guys already are debranding but only with the special service cables
