Sony Ericsson P990i

I had the CK7W car kit. I tried everything, paring, repairing, latest phone firmware, latest carkit firmware and I couldn't get it to work.

Outgoing calls were fine, incoming calls got cut off between 5 and 8 seconds into the call. It was damn annoying. I eventually gave up and bought a HBH-PV700 Bluetooth headset. It works fantastically.

I spent my sunday afternoon removing the carkit, and gave it to a family member who uses a Nokia. The carkit installation place told me that the handsfree profile on the carkit was not compatible with the handsfree profile on the phone. :(

Sorry for the bad news.
This is really bad news. Really struggled to get it working today withou any luck. Read throught countless webpages for tips and solutions. Paid a lot for the carkit, had it installed in my car, had to take it out, installed into new car, had a booster fitted and directed it throught car speakers, and had a few loose wires and fuses repaired today - all which cost alot. And now I learn that it was not worth the effort. Will make me go back to using my old Nokia 6230. Funny thing - worked 100% when I still had the Vodacom Branded Software on. Makes me wonder if I should not have it re-installed.

ZIP Utililty for P990

Hi Guys

Has anyone found a reliable compression utility for the P990? I get zipped files sent to me by email often, and not being able to open them is frustrating

Rufus

I got mine today! It's great :P The sound is pretty good, and it works flawlessly! I think it's a very cool idea! Let me know what you think?

So where did yours come from? What price?

Mine has just arrived, its on the charger.

I've heard of an app that can unzip RAR files. I will let you know if I can find it.

Hbh Ds 970

I have been using these for a little while this afternoon. They are awesome. Sound quality is great. They weigh very little and look very good. If anyone is looking a good set of headphones this is the way to go. It expensive yes, but is there any better solution? Coolness factor is big.

I think I'm going to start saving for my own birthday coming up..

I have had my P990 since last year November. It had the Vlive software on but I managed to get the Generic software loaded at vodaworld.
Does your phones hang and restart alot. I have actualy reverted back to my P910 cause my P990 hangs and people battle to get hold of me. Not good for buisness. I am now desperately waiting for the next firmware update.

Hey WDPL

My phone has not crashed or hung for quite a long time. It may be that your software is a little buggy, but it could also be memory issues - read up in the forum about Swiss Manager Pro, it's an excellent utility that you can use to close programs running in the background that you're no longer using. There's loads of other features - but the main culprit I think is that people don't use the task managers often enough to close programs running in the background, and that leads to instability.

My SM-Pro trial has ended and while I'm feeling poor - I've just been using the Task Manager to close applications. Does the same thing as SM, just I do it. Phone has been on and running fine for a couple of days now.

I think I might just reinstall the free version of SM unless someone feels like PM'ing me their registration code?

Hi everybody!! :)

My apologies for the long absence, but my girlfriend is taking up most of my spare time now, so don't get time to post anymore.

A BIG thank you to Gecko for holding the fort and keeping the P990i thread alive!! ;)

Well, as business is getting hectic, I'm using my P990i more & more and am becoming EXTREMELY frustrated with it.

I've had my third 'restart to improve performance' tonight, as I answered a call. Very annoying and not good for my business. I'm now seriously thinking that my suspicion about a faulty memory controller is correct. I was running Swiss Manager 1.40 on all occasions when the phone restarted itself & wasn't low on memory.

The screen is completely unreadable in direct sunlight, but not sure if it's my Martin Fields screen protector that makes it difficult to see the display in bright light...

Also, the auto focus on the camera is very unreliable and you don't know if you gonna get a good photo or a blurred one. Another bug that needs to be fixed.

Very sad that I 'donated' my P910i to my sister, because one of these days I'm gonna throw my P990i against the wall... let's hope SonyEricsson will fix these issues in a next firmware update and that I'm wrong about the faulty memory controller.

*Hi Bruce000! :)

Hi kvi! :)

Yes, it is damn depressing. The sad thing is that I'm stuck with my P990i for the next two years!

If SE release a P1000 this year or next year, they better offer it to me at a fat discount, otherwise I'll have to drive over my phone and get a P1000 from insurance... ;)

Ah! I see a new firmware update is about to be released....

From www.my-symbian.com....
arsc,

Yes, I can personally confirm as well that the next firmware is to be out soon and is going to be R5XX. When? I dont know, I only know that is coming soon.

But for sure is not week 5 as rumored since we already are in week 6.

Welcome back :)

This is strange. I haven't had a single one yet since January. May indeed be a hardware fault in your phone, but convincing a service centre of that will be hard.

The screen is completely unreadable in direct sunlight, but not sure if it's my Martin Fields screen protector that makes it difficult to see the display in bright light...

This is not the screen protector's fault. Mine has always been that way. If there's a little shade, it's OK, but the moment there's none, the screen becomes unreadable. They must've been testing it in the darker corners of Europe and not here inititially :p

Just a quick one

How does one quote selected text from a previous post? At the moment I am copying the entire post and then deleting the non relevant bits. I am sure there is a faster way.

Welcome back kingrob!

I was wondering whether you and aqualung eloped or something similar..

Also having the odd reboot here and there, but in total about 3 times since my FW upgrade on the 5th of Jan. 2 times because I overloaded it, and 1 time out of the blue, idling on the table with no 3rd party apps running. Still a few bugs to fix. Let's hope this new firmware is coming soon.

Have you tried out Tweak Peaks? It's a great app! I wouldn't buy it yet in case the new FW includes an option to turn off transitions.

It's good to have the King back. The girlfriend is a good excuse though :-)
