Ive been using the W995 for the past 2 weeks.
It brings me back to the old SE days, this is really a good handset.

Its not an iPhone or Blackberry or smartphone. Standard S40 OS but tweaked. Excellent response times, very nice looking phone and not branded!:D:D

It has everything except a xenon flash!!

SE new walkman is the best yet!
8.1MP cam, not as good as the 8MP in the C905 but all the same!
GPS voice navigation worked first time!
HSDPA like most SE handsets is stable and signal is just perfect, hasnt dropped down to 3G yet which is odd, but im not complaining:D
Dual stereo speakers, loud and best off all not squeaky like a Nokia, it has some bass!

So if you looking for a smooth fast and sleek handset go for the W995!:)

Hmmm

Nice heads-up.

I am looking at the W715 at the moment... but Vodacon cannot confirm upgrade stock.
Grrrrrr.

Perhaps wait for this then?

The W715 will be the better phone, its very cheap and has all the same features wifi, HSDPA etc minus the 8MP cam.
My problem with it is the 3.2MP cam on the W715 is very very bad and the phone is branded which irritates me.

They about the same size as well, the W715 has gold bits everywhere and the W995 has silver...

They both available, if you have to pay in more than R500 for the W995 rather take the W715.
But I recommend the W995!;)

Hey JK8

Thanks for that... Vodacon tell me that they have the W595 in stock at the moment.
The W995 is still to be announced... ETA is unknown.

The W715 it would seem is not an upgrade option as yet.

F@rk... I guess it is a trip to MTN then.

Grrrrrrr.

Is see that the W995 has a slightly bigger screen too and it comes with the 8GB memory card. Nice.

Are you sure it uses the s40? That's Nokia's property. Hmmm . . . It looks like Nokia is becoming a second Microsoft. What is the video recording like? I bet is not better then my old n95 :D I never thought I will need a compact video recorder in my pocket day in day out . . . But then again, 4years ago, I never thought I need a 5mp camera in my cell. Funny how time change ones needs :D

Symbian is S60 - Nokia owns that, well most of it.
Video is WQVGA 30 fps little better than the N95 and with a 8MP cam.
I think its far better than the N95 but then again the N95 is almost 3 years old...!

Hmmm . . . Nokia n95 has full VGA buddy ! Not quarter ! My oma's cell had QVGA :D And I ask you again - are you sure it does use the s40 OS?

This is one of the areas where Sony Ericsson excels. Sony Ericsson’s feature phone user interface has always been one of Sony Ericsson’s trump cards, and the latest version is no different. The W995 runs the Enea OSE operating system with Sony Ericsson’s refreshed A2 user interface on top. This basically means that the phone operates quickly and is a pleasure to use. It really seems like Sony Ericsson has got a winner on their hands with the W995.

Yeah, whatever . . . In other words you agree - it does not use the S40 OS, as initially posted :D About how 'great' SE is, I've heard it all before. Isn't this the cell company with the biggest market and financial loss so far in 2009? I believe they just managed to stay in front of Alcatel what cellphones are concerned :D And SE are very lucky to have Sagem as a partner, sorting out their low budged phones, otherwise Alcatel truly deserve to be ahead :D Go do some Google before answering - you'll be surprised :D

Sony Ericsson phones rule!

I have had them since the T68i... through the z600, k700, w800, w850, k800i, w880i. All are still functioning, even the z600 that took a swim in the pool, albeit without the back light working :).

Every one has its original battery... and still has around a 5 day standby... without being switched off at night.

They have been passed down to family and workers who still use them daily without any issues.

I will be upgrading to the W715, I think, or after reading this, the w995... without a second thought or hesitation. Everything about them is intuitive, well made and extremely reliable.

Nokia, I feel lost the plot years ago. I admit, my last Nokia was the 7250i yeeeeears ago. Was in for repair EVERY 6 months. I swore NEVER to touch them since and I have not looked back.

So, yes, they may be in trouble, more so than Motorola, but they make DAMN FINE handsets!

JK8 I hate you :p

Did a check and if I was to get an upgrade now I'd have to pay in R1500 to get the W995.

Luckily my upgrade is only in November so I shouldn't have to pay in then or only a small amount.

I got this phone today and I'm trying to connect to the internet via wifi but it's not loading anything. It connects to my router perfectly but like I said it can't load anything. It's vodafone branded though. Anyone (with the vodafone branding) got it working?

Looks decent. Not a big fan of Sony Ericcson.
But it's an amazing phone and it is different from the other Walkman phones.
I like it.

Big fan of SE Walkman phones but I think their losing the plot. However the Question I have is: GPS/A-GPS is Garmin maps on and is it free for life or just for six months etc. MTN doesn't specify in booklet.

Howd you get a branded one? Does it say Vodafone on the phone? That mus suck... but I read its not as bad as the C905 with branding.
Im sure youve changed all the wifi settings and have wifi active. I havent used the wifi option yet, ill try it today.

I also think they losing the plot, but I like this phone, im glad they merging the Cybershot and Walkman phones, its about time!!
As for the GPS SE uses Wayfinder. Theres alot fo free maps available these days, dont need to use the one built into the phone.

Well, there's nothing on the body but it came with vlive and a vodacom theme.

EDIT: Ok i got it working but disabled the security on my router lol - just a test though. It was on WPA-PSK+WPA2-PSK and I enter the security code in my phone and it connects like I said earlier on but with that problem. Any idea? Maybe I should use a different encryption?
