Sony PS4: Rumour mill continues

Will they ever learn - now they want to put in holographic discs. Whats the bet that Microsoft will have a similarly specced console that only outputs 1080p (because frankly I dont see the mass gaming population owning QFHD screens, 7.1 surround sound and BluRay which should be cheap enough by that time to kill the PS4 easily. Sheesh.

Did you see the title Rumour not fact but sounds cool I don't think they will force QFHD but we have to wait and see hey :D

The PS4, and the Xbox-360 aren't really able to output at 1080p with any decent framerate yet... how exactly do Sony expect their "PS4" to be able to do a much higher res if its only "twice" as powerful as the PS3.... Plus keeping the Cell processor... that in my opinion would prob be Sony's biggest mistake if they do that.

Ah, BluRay, The one thing so many (0) still strive for badly, but alas cannot have. But I thought it is a media doomed to fail as touted by the MyBB experts? So Why would the 720+ have it?

Interesting but alas only rumours. But this I know; the PS4 will be Kick @ss. Nice to have some competition ideas for the Xbox tho. They will need it. Keeps M$ on their toes. I hope!

The cell is going main stream soon to compete with Intel/AMD so whats wrong with that?

Have u played gran Turismo Prologue ?, that runs @ 60fps with 1080p res, also I think it would be a good thing to keep the cell, as by then it will be cheaper, so they could put 4 cells in it (like the original PS3) :p

The Cell by its design is unable to compete directly against Intel/AMD in general purpose computing or things like that...

The Cell is a processing powerhouse, but for very specialised applications.

As I said the cell is going to be used mainstream soon in Notebooks/Desktops. The CPU as we know it is going to become obsolete sooner than many would believe. Multicore (Cells) is the way it's going. Just my view on info I read. Do not take it too seriously. Just Google to find out more.

9.1 sound? WTF.

Nothing extreme. Just simply *DTS HD master* specs. No channel limits. Depending on hardware you can switch/select channels to various outputs like overhead tweeters, subs, Low frequency vibrators, etc.

HiFi Audio is a subject on its own. Sony is strong in that arena, they cater for a very broad spectrum of consumers as the PS3 shows clearly, not just simply for gamers.

I'm just trying to get 7.1 setup dammit :p

If you have money, the Sony 7.1 system is damn good value for money for the price (+- 7000.00 complete system) or at least the receiver at Makro for (R4000.00 odd). Can do DTS HD master and HDMI 1.3 output.

Can't wait for the PS4 maybe I will be able to use the console. Not to start flaming Sony but I bought a PS3 when the console launched in South Africa, and I have bought only 5 games since then. I have got more games on my wii and there is only about 6 decent wii games :D

Which one? I hear sony make some decent receivers in my home theater thread - didn't know they made a 7.1 system, I know they have that fugly 6.2 system.

Go browse their site, It is now the 7.2 system. Same Fugly as 6.2 BUT IT WORKS. The receiver alone is on Makro site.

Back to Topic.
@ Soldier. If you are not using the PS3 and likes the Pii then the PS4 will not be your saviour. Sell the PS3, How much?

So sell it and get a 360 ;)

As for the rumour, it's just fanboy wet dreams. It's just a number buff from the PS3 but doesn't address the PS3's fundamental flaw - that's it's too expensive to produce for a consumer device.

Do you know which receiver is with the 7.2? Can't find it on the Sony site, or the Makro site.

That depends what consumer you target, "Simple gamers" or "educated consumers" that is looking for more in a Media center device than just pure gaming. So yeah stick with the 360, I will opt for a 720 as I am 100% sure microsoft will add all the things currently in the PS3, like BluRay, into the 720 just to compete.
