Sore Throat

Hosehead - I don't really like drugs, so if I can avoid it... I will... Thank you though :)

Gunther - Peri-peri does wonders for me as well. Unfortunately I have nothing to put it on haha...

Ook - Thank you :D

supersunbird - I'm currently doing the Coke Zero thing... It works, but it only works for as long as I drink it haha :D I love Pepsi though ;)

Other half just got home with some Cepacol - antibacterial throat lozenges... I stuffed one in my mouth and pain just disappeared o.o These things are frikkin' awesome! I can swallow!!!!

Chomp on those curried chillies in a jar (Packo?) from most stores.

after the 4th one you'll forget about your sore throat. :D

You'll wanna put a bog roll in the freezer tho, for the inevitable ring-sting the next day...

Never tried it. Except once when my mom managed to convince me that it'll help when I was a kid. Needless to say I've been averse to it ever since :D

Oroclor? Never heard of that. May I ask what exactly that is? Lozenge? Throat spray?

Throat spray.

Salt water kills the germs.

How can salt water kill a virus? Antibiotics can't kill viruses either. Both are effective against bacteriological infections but most sore throats are caused by viruses just as colds and flu are caused by viruses -and these are often the same Rhinovirus.

Codeine is a natural substance derived from the Poppy plant. (Papaver bracteatum) There. Feel better.?

Not really :p Thank you though :)

Fixed.

Get some honey - it really works, you'll notice how much better it will make your throat feel.

Other half brought home some Cepacol, as I think I mentioned. This stuff is amazing! I plopped one in my mouth and then... nothing... No pain, no irritation, no annoying cough. It really is a "wow" sort of lozenge. I'm too bleugh to go anywhere near town today and other half is out like a light having an afternoon nap, so no chance of that there either :p Thank you though, after this I think I'm going to stock up on honey!

http://www.doctorhoffman.com/wwsaline.htm <--- Something regarding the effectiveness of gargling salt water. I'm too lazy to read it... *sucks another lozenge* Wow... how these babies avoided me for so long is a mystery!

i have a similiar problem. i had a bit of the flu about 3 weeks ago but it was nothing serious but then i started coughing and this cough has not left me. i sometimes have coughing fits and have problems talking properly because of the cough. what can it be. i have gone through 2 bottles of cough mixture and a few other home remedies in between.

See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cough_medicine

Codeine is one of the strongest cough suppressants known, along with a number of derivatives such as the dihydrocodeine-hydrocodone subgroup of opioids, and the semi-synthetics and synthetics mentioned below. Codeine is the standard by which all antitussives are measured. It suppresses coughing by direct action on the cough centre in the brain, and also decreases the rate and/or tidal volume of respiration.

huh that just dont sound right ha ha but thanks for the info, i will read it again now to try and understand it.

Well you could try some chocolate in that case-

Recent studies have found that theobromine, a compound found in cacao, is more effective as a cough suppressant than prescription codeine. This compound suppresses the "itch" signal from the nerve in the back of the throat that causes the cough reflex. It is possible to get an effective dose (1 g, though 0.5 g may be sufficient)[3] from 50g of dark chocolate, which contains 2 to 10 times more cacao than milk chocolate. Cocoa powder contains roughly 0.1 g per tablespoon (5g).[4] Theobromine was also free from side effects in the blind tests.[5]
