Soundbar buying advice

Recently bought a new TV and am trying to get a more "cinematic experience". Would like something with some surround sound effect. Have been looking at these virtual surround sound (doubt if it will be any good) and true 5.1 system.

At a budget of around R5000, what would you buy?
 
If you want a soundbar with a surround sound experience, Dolby Atmos certified soundbar is the way to go..
 
I bought something very similar to that Samsung one listed above a year ago, I think just the previous model. It's very slick, well built and quite powerful, but I sold it a little while ago. The sound quality compared to my ancient Logitech 5.1 PC sound system was disappointing to my ears. I think a system with separate speakers sounds much better. But maybe the Atmos stuff helps. So long story to say try and listen before you buy.
 
i have a samsung hw-n650 i got a couple of years back for around r5k. im not really a fan of soundbars but it was what fitted at the time. it has impressed me, im sure there are newer models.
 
I’d say depends on the size of the room. If it’s a large room then a sound bar will sound “nice” but that’s about it. Nothing gets surround sound like and actual surround sound setup in a large room.

one of my sites we furnished the house as well and had fitted sound bars to the lounger and balcony of the house. We used exact models but the difference was very noticeable. On the smaller balcony the sound bar was amazing, in the lounge it was ok. Didn’t quite get the same punch as it did on the balcony and I think it was due o the size of the lounge. He later had it changed to a proper setup and the difference was amazing.

PS these were the same Samsung sound bar mentioned above which is compatible with the wireless rear speakers. So not cheap or bad quality stuff which were used.
 
We've used a soundbar for a few years, Samsung HT-E8200. Only because I can't stand wires and speakers everywhere.
The sound is fine, but the surround effect is non-existant.

yeah were staying in an apartment so i suppose its better for the sound bar

this thing i have has speakers pointing in all directions, its caught me out a few times hearing a sound effect next to me or behind me. but as said, its probably because of the room size.


i too prefer speakers all over, but dont like the wires or look if they are big and chunky
 
Probably out of your budget, but I’ve been using Sonos Arcs on my TVs. They’re great - rear speakers and subwoofers can be added too (wirelessly too, although mine are wired). It supports Dolby Atmos too.
