DStv in trouble

South Africans are dumping DStv as access to affordable uncapped broadband improves and online streaming services gain popularity.

MultiChoice’s annual report for the year ended 31 March 2024 revealed that active DStv subscribers in South Africa declined from 8.0 million to 7.6 million over the last year.

The funniest part of this is if it ends up being Telkom thats kills off Multichoice. Oh how the turn tables.

"The main reason for DStv Premium’s decline over the last eight years was a combination of uncapped fibre and Netflix launching in South Africa."

Lol, nope.

The main reason is an overpriced sub-standard product that nobody is prepared to pay for anymore and a stubborn refusal to realise that your only option is to lower prices or fade into obscurity. They've chosen the latter option it seems.

Kodak comes to mind - entertainment has changed and this model is dying off. I'm pretty sure it is the sport lovers keeping and paying for DSTV. For movies and TV shows you can sign up with a different streaming provider every month and watch what you want, when you want. I couldn't imagine going back to the DSTV way of watching.
