You know it will accelerate.
They will keep on pushing up prices as subscribers leave - in order to keep the shareholders/investors happy.
This is the start of the bleeding, the wound will get bigger and then their customer base will collapse.
They should have listened to their customers years ago, but they chose to listen to shareholders instead forgetting that you need to keep customers happy.
DStv in trouble
South Africans are dumping DStv as access to affordable uncapped broadband improves and online streaming services gain popularity.
MultiChoice’s annual report for the year ended 31 March 2024 revealed that active DStv subscribers in South Africa declined from 8.0 million to 7.6 million over the last year.
I believe they'll always be a DStv of course how much of it remains the question. DStv isn't even Gen Z oriented and this is the market that would someday become the age group of millennials or Gen X already you have people born in 2012 with no knowledge of the SABC.they still have 7.6 million stupid people ........

I doubt millennials are big on DSTV.I believe they'll always be a DStv of course how much of it remains the question. DSTV like Kodak left it too late and will pay the price, it has had a stupid business plan and even worse programming plan since it started with M-Net in 1986, absolutely nothing has changed, losing customers is the only thing DSTV is guaranteed to do. I was part of the nightmare from '86 until '20 when covid hit, only after cancelling did I suddenly realize that I hadn't been watching DSTV for years anyway, it seldom had anything worth wasting time watching. Glad to be over TV as a whole to be honest.
Canal+ already has 28 million subscribers and with DStv's losses I anticipate that they'll likely look to align the content to tackle those losses. In short, you have Netflix USA then it's imports in Africa, Turkey and India the only difference would be the local content on those platforms. They've survived a long time already though. And the poison test - they've made it through the streaming changes (although it did cripple them).
No, if Canal+ does take over it should ensure enough reasonable fine tuning to go beyond too
DStv still has value dependant on the user some like news channels even those Christian channels. But I get why you'd cancel channels 100-140 are becoming a thing of the past if Netflix and Disney can just bundle this offering and curate the fresher content better.DSTV like Kodak left it too late and will pay the price, it has had a stupid business plan and even worse programming plan since it started with M-Net in 1986, absolutely nothing has changed, losing customers is the only thing DSTV is guaranteed to do. Do you get Starhub with the South African version of Disney+Most peeps seem to think Disney sucks big time these days. I tried Disney+ on a free trial, horrible (and I still like some younger stories).

Most people don't watch sport. Gen Z even much less.I still don't know why people compare DSTV in every thread too Netflix Disney etc. They do not have sport.
If you want to compare then compare it to one of DSTV cheap packages.
DSTV Premium have just about every important sport and sporting event. The other have zero of any interest
Live Sport cost money, not old Movies and tv series..
Yes agreed on the sport issue but they also have the monopoly on them and that's the issue. When they collapse so does the monopoly.I still don't know why people compare DSTV in every thread too Netflix Disney etc. They do not have sport.

'Cos they can't afford to here or 'cos they've been made lazy by tech or both? Most people don't watch sport. Gen Z even much less.
With the Australian version you get it, it is actually not to bad.I don't think so, never heard of it.

Thinus made similar comments as well there's people out here saying Netflix is R200p/m versus DStv R900p/m but has anyone factored in data costs for Netflix etc. which could even amount to R500 still cheaper but a portion of DStv consumers can't afford a luxury that amounts to R200. Then other variations, DStv has sports and news and I know Netflix might get WWE in Africa by 2027/8 but still I'm not expecting them to invest in major league sports like PSL.I still don't know why people compare DSTV in every thread too Netflix Disney etc. They do not have sport.

Apparently, Disney Star (India) manages the Disney+ service in South Africa which does explain why there's no reports of ad tiers and all those other features like Netflix. My gripe with local Disney+ was two-fold - lame stories these days, and woke... woke everywhere
