To be honest, the field at the long jump is pretty terrible. 8.3m will win it. Last Olympics was equally shocking. They don't make the jumpers (long and high) like they used to.

What was mokoena's jump when he got silver at the last olympics? His best is 8.50 and he hasn't even gone over 8 yet

The field is really shockingly terrible, that he can even be 8th with his distances.

Ya frankly that's not acceptable for an Olympic final. Didn't he test positive for some recreational drug in the last year or so?

This is going to be a bad second week for us.

I still expect a medal in the 4x400m relay, Semenya and Viljoen. With only one with a real gold medal chance.

This has to be the low point so far, it's as if he didn't put any effort in at all. Surely the first thing you have to practice is making sure your jumps are legit.

Nah. LJ is a much bigger dissapointment. Unlike LJ, Mokoena was never world class - what with a PB that's almost 1/2m shorter than the WR.

What I was thinking too. Few of us who were huddled around the box waiting to see our lad . . . . and nothing. If they showed him jumping, it must have been when I was blinking (or yawning! ).

Going through a bit of a dry streak. Nothing is really working for us, need someone to sparkle to restart our Olympic hype. Not sure who SASCOC thought were our 12 medal hopefuls but so far we are only 1/3 of the way with most of our best chances going fast.

Thread is just for South Africans in action but I will add a little piece for the men's 100m times for tomorrow.

Difficult to see how our echelon foresaw 12 medals. Must remain positive and hope for some surprises from our remaining athletes.

Looks like its going to be another bleak day for us; going to be interesting to see how Oscar does in his race. If he could somehow sneak into the final, however unlikely, it would be a fantastic reward for him.
