I can't tell you how sick I am of Vodacom continuously SPAMMING me. The law is very clear on this: Section 45 of Electronic Communications and Transactions Act (Act 25 of 2002) makes it a criminal offense to SPAM someone who has indicated that they do not wish to receive any unsolicited communications. But do you think these scumbags at Vodacom care for the law?

In the SMS SPAM they always include an "SMS STOP to 30600 to opt out from receiving Vodacom marketing messages". This is just to create the impression of complying with the law. In reality they just delete all these STOP messages, because no matter how many times I have "opt out", they still keep on SPAMMING me.

I know this is not the right forum to ask but I have suffered this abuse from Vodacom for so long I don't know where else to go. Does anyone know of a cell phone that you can set a filter on to automatically delete SMSs that are not from someone who is in your address book?

Thanks
Barnett

I believe there is an iPhone app for this called iBlacklist - I have no experience with it, and cannot categorically state that it does what you are looking for. Google?

Complain to WASPA - they'll unsubscribe you, if you get spammed again, complain again, and they'll get fined.

I had the same problem with Woolworths, they eventually got fined a small fortune just for spamming.

send me you number so i can opt you out please

I have already send the "opt out" SMS, but as I said, I know this opting out will not be respected, or not for long. Maybe my number gets deleted from one SPAM list, but next week they will just create a new SPAM list and I am on it again. I know, this happened many times before.

What a respectable company will do is to not just delete numbers from one SPAM list but instead keep a separate list of people who have opted out and then remove them from all their SPAM lists and make sure whose numbers never again get added to new SPAM lists. Actually, respectable companies do not SPAM, but that is probably too much to ask from Vodacom considering their ability to SPAM their customers as much as they want and at no cost.

So I can send you my number, but unless you can convince Vodacom to actually respect my request (and the law), I do not know how that is any different to the STOP SMS that I already sent and that will be ignored ayway?

Well, I have tried everything else, I may as well try. If you can make the abuse stop it will be fantastic. It is just sad though, that you do not give your general customer base this option...

Thanks

Remove your number and PM him.

Thanks, but I am still curious... what exactly did you do? How is it different from sending the STOP SMS? Why does sending the STOP SMS not work?

I think he asked another question as well, one which I would also like the answer to.

1. Why STOP doesn't work.

2. I would also like to know (still unanswered), whether another campaign will require the sending of yet another STOP SMS or whether sending the one STOP will in fact STOP all of them reaching your phone?

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I also want to know how to permanently stop this SMS spamming. I have a MyMeg 500 data bundle and keep getting %$**!@# soccer SMSs. Did not subscribe to anything!!

OK, so my question summary is clear.

Let's wait for an answer from VodacomData.
