Spare parts needed for external hdd

Hi all. I'm a first time poster here so please let me know of I'm doing this incorrectly.

Here is the situation :

my hdd of 6 years powers on makes its usual sounds then goes completely silent.

.device manager does not pick it up
.bios does not pick it up
.tested on the ps3 out of hopelessness and that does not pick up either

After reading extensively I realize I have three options:
.test the power cable
.test the USB cable
.open and inspect the pcb (possibly replace)

.purchased 2011

(it is a rather old model so if I replace the pcb I am willing to swap out the firmware chip as well)

The reason I desperately need my data is I have 6 years worth of graphic design backed up on this hdd including client work and my own. It would be really difficult to lose all of these files.

So my question is where in SA (Durban specifically) can I order spare parts for my hdd either in store or online? And, if all else fails where can I purchase a new case to house the hdd if I have to format? Because once I open the casing the clips are broken and will never close again.

just put the drive into another case, will work 100% IF the drive is ok and the verbatim case is faulty.

If it is ordinary SATA drive inside the enclosure, plug it to the PC SATA controller and see whether the drive is recognised.

As above, open it up, and see what interfaces it has. If it is a SATA drive in a USB enclosure, try connect it to the motherboard of your PC to see if it is recognised. If it is not, your best option will be to pay for data recovery. SouthBit has been good on the occasions I have used them. It will not be cheap for a 3TB drive, though! I guess around R10k.

Also wanted to say, don't think about reusing the drive. Once it starts giving trouble, it will only get worse. If you get your data off it, chuck it away and buy a new one. 3TB drives should be around R1500 or thereabouts these days.
