I just got 21,45 kb/sec
About the same as 2 hrs earlier.
I can't say that my connection varies much -it stays useless.

Down- and Upload-Test with: support.cybernet.ch

1.) Download small file (file length of 62 kByte)
Download duration : 15132 ms
Measured download data rate for a small file: 33 kBit/s

2.) Download big file (file length of 500 kByte)
Timeout!
Measured download data rate: 0 kBit/s

BTW, I'm not capped! Very much in line with my browsing experience.

How does Telkom ever manage to AVERAGE 300kbps? I wish they could tell me the trick. And at least 120kbps at peak times like now? Didn't know people in SA work so late....

Hi All,

just tested five times in the last twenty minutes, between 16:25 and 16:45 20th August I got the following reults:

121.6 kbits/sec
35.6 kbits/sec
69.5 kbits/sec
84 kbits/sec
44.79 kbits/sec

Will Telkom buy back my USB modem as I am going back to my dialup?

I complain when it's bad, but I also commend when it's good.
Just downloaded the newest patch for IE6 - 3.2MB downloaded at 440kbps.

How can this be?

I just tested my speed. 51,96 kbits/sec

A few minutes ago i tested. 1,2 mbits/sec!!!

Last night the same thing happened but i just doublechecked to make sure. I get speed variations within minutes between 25 kbit/sec and 1,3 megabits/sec.

Note that i am capped.

When i try to access my international gaming servers after testing these super speeds, i get no access.

Can this be due to the port prioritisation? That even with good speed you cannot play games?

It seems that all we can play is MONOPOLY with Telkom and only they get to throw the dice.

Oh my goodness, this is totally sick. I have the speed but I can't download anything or I'll exceed my cap!

Please pity me :)

Telkom only gives you the adsl speed so that they can say you have it.
You are not supposed to use it in any way.

Wow!!!

Has telkom had a sudden change of heart and let the throttle open a bit? or is this once off luck prehaps?

Hi guys

I see the speeds are again not what it should be. I just did the test (Monday 1 Sept 16:05) and the speed is 11.54 kbits/sec. This is not great!

Hi Guys.
This is why some of you experience fast download speeds, and other not. Telkom has a fixed line from the DSLAM (Exchange) to the ASDL clound, What now happens is that telkom oversubscribe THAT line. do your own calculations. How big line must telkom install from the DSLAM to the cloud? , let's say there is 20 People on a DSLAM (Telkom Exchange) then telkom must have a +- 10 Meg line running from that DSLAM to the cloud. When i spoke to the telkom technician that installed my line he told me that my DSLAM has a 2 meg line running to the ADSL cloud. Do your own calculations, telkom does not have the infrastructure to handle this....[:p]. As for my exchange there is 21 People on it and we are pretty ok for now.
