Speed upgrades

How i see it playing out is that trial areas will remain at those speeds and areas around major CBD's *as most are connected to metro ring* will be upgraded.
With all these uncapped packages floating around i'm sure Telkom will want to offer at least something more competitive cap wise.
Were almost half way through the month guys, so im sure Telkom will release a press statement sometime this month to inform us of whats going down if June 1st is indeed upgrade time.

Ok... does anybody know where the 1 June date came from. Was there some press release I forgot to read or is this going to be a letdown once we have built ourselves up?

I'm expecting any new service/upgrade announcements to be made in June (not necessarily the 1st) for August implementation, despite rumours & wishful thinking I'm not aware of any public comments from Telkom in this regard.

They said before the world cup starts, hence the 1 June Date

Looks like the rumours started here on 28 March - http://mybroadband.co.za/news/adsl/11929-Telkom-Mbps-ADSL-preparation.html

Telkom CEO Reuben September previously said that he is keen to launch an 8 Mbps ADSL service as quickly as possible, adding that it will happen before the 2010 World Cup.

Telkom Wholesale further said that they are looking at a possible March/April 2010 implementation date, but highlighted that it is dependent on network upgrades which are needed to support the higher speeds.

Telkom would again not say when the first ADSL speed upgrades are likely to start, merely indicating that the final dates have not yet been formalised.

As I said - wishful thinking :)

@MickZA.... Thanks for the link, Let's all cross thumbs and hope it actually happends

If 1 June 2010 comes, and i can phone to get my 4MB upgraded, I will strip down bear naked and streak on 12 June 2010 when SA vs France, @ Newlands!!!!

Quoted for future reference!!!

LOL :D, Telkom please don't disappoint.

AH is already offering 8mb service, is it for current or future? Do they know something we don't about the launch date, or is it for trial users?

I think it would be really irrisponsable of telkom to make a change like this just before the world cup starts

Guys this change will only come in Mid August the ealiest

did I not tell you this a couple of posts earlier--TELKOM is only going to do something (if anything) come 1 August--their usual period for upgrades and pricing.

made a similar post a few days ago...something about stripping @ Newlands if these upgrades happen before the EPIC FAIL SWC

here you go :

I think we are in for a HUGE disappointment come 1 June 2010. We are ALL hoping for those long awaiting speed upgrades, but i think this will only happen some time after the SWC, Q3 or even Q4. Telkom will have an excuse for not delivering. If 1 June 2010 comes, and i can phone to get my 4MB upgraded, I will strip down bear naked and streak on 12 June 2010 when SA vs France, @ Newlands!!!!

P.S imminent = swear word on mybb, lol

What's the use to upgrade people to higher speeds if they can't even supply reliable 4MB speeds at the moment?

Agreed, I believe it will all happen after the WC. This country is going to be stagnant for a month, not so good for the economy is it now, hey Mr Jordaan?

Did Garyvdh not confirm that a "trusted source" said that speed upgrades will be announced on the 1st of June (and by announced, I mean upgraded)?

no matter when, it will eventually happen (operative word: eventually, defined by TELKOM as "when we have completely leached you all and are ready to leach you even more".
