Speeding Fines

I also received a notice to go to court. I was driving a courtesy car from Alfa when mine went in. So far I haven't received the summons so I'm waiting for it before I go groveling to the prosecutor. Anyways, the notice is to Alfa so they need to transfer it to my name. Its been a few months and even though ive chased them up nothing has come of it...

AARTO is delayed (again) so we wont have our licenses suspended...

With AARTO they deny you access to your licence disk renewal until all outstanding levies/monies/fines is paid in full.

I've heard from a few people that some fines they saw they had on payfine.co.za where not asked to be paid for when renewing... so will have to see if there system is properly integrated etc.

What happened to me is :

Scooter engine burnt out. I sort of forgot to pay the fine. :o

When I got notice of licence renewal for the Palio, I toddled off to pay it as any good citizen should - but the tannie at the counter said "Nein. Request denied". So I had to pay the outstanding amount(s) on the scooter first before the request was granted.

Ok... hopefully the computer system will crash and destroy and records of any fines anyone EVER got!!!!

I sold a car to a guy and gave him all the paperwork for transfer.
He never did the transfer of ownership so a year later when I went to renew the license disc of another vehicle of mine I was refused the new license until I paid the outstanding fees on the previous vehicle because it was still in my name and almost a year overdue on license fees.

There's a difference between money owed on a fine, and money owed on a license disc of another vehicle in your name. THAT they will pick up on.

When I bought my current vehicle the previous owner INSISTED it was in my name before I took it... very clever!

The old transfer of ownership system required the paperwork be signed by both parties, and either party could go submit the transfer.
The new system works like this - whoever has the original registration paper in his possession is the vehicle owner. The buyer has to take the registration paper and go do the transfer. The seller has no more input or control. I had no way to know that the transfer hadn't been done, short of going to the licensing department and trying to convince them to tell me whether the transfer had been done or not. :( Meh.

Hey all...

I've received the summons I am to appear in court on the 17th of November...

I was thinking of getting a lawyer... wise choice??

So to confirm - I could get my license suspended/ a criminal record/ and a fine?? Eish

You are bloody lucky that I am not my grandfather and that I'm not a magistrate like him. If you appeared in front of me with 14k outstanding, plus another biggie that means you have to come to court, you would be kissing your drivers licence goodbye for at least a year, plus doing community service until you got your head around speed limits and the law. That would be in addition to the fine.

Limits are there to be obeyed, and the sooner ever tosser with a licence understands that, the better.

Thanks for the help.... Oh sorry - that was no help...

Yes you are absolutely correct - speed limits are there to make the government money - I thought we had established this already...

Somebody is about to get an awesome lesson in justice! :D

Yes, yes... Please get a lawyer and do all you can to fight the system! ;)

:wtf: LOL

I am also in the same situation. I will go see the magistrate in court hopefully soon. I also have outstanding fines and my disc is due for renewal. My licence is also due but no need to drive my car. I have learnt my lesson when it comes to speeding, it's reckless and negligent of me. I did over 102km/h on a 60 zone. It's now pointless buying a V6 when speed limits are so high on the roads. I am shopping for a toyota conquest or a kia or something.

I will go to court in my torn tracksuit and takkies and an unshaven face and my twins...The magistrate should buy that right?

Truth sucks, I see...

Par for the course my friend.... ;) You might die of a heart attack this afternoon - Just saying :)

Go play in traffic - maybe a dubious speeding motorist will heed my call and take you out - hahaha

Oh and have a very nice day!

P.S. I'm sure it's gonna be more than 20k
