AAAARG!!! Here we go again. This week began very promising and look...we're back to 3KB\s. Tower 126 Brixton 12% Signal.

By the look of it, it seems that Sentech are moving to another provider(away from infosat) we probably caught them half though I don't know which backbone or service provide the IP blongs to(apperantly only maintained ty ARIN whoever that is) but the uploads are very fast.. downloads are iffy at best getting on bandwidth around 70-80kbits/s give it till tomorrow and we'll see what there is to see about this new structure. oh pings to the USA are sweet Google(around 350ms-380ms) and Yahoo.com(434ms-458ms)

Hehee .. just did a speed test you your server 16kbs I believe ... gotta looove our friends ;-)

Traceroute's indicate that nothing has changed. They're still peering at Internet Solutions and the IP's being dished out are still 66.18.x.x (for me at least).

By the way, Infosat is owned by Sentech. They won't ever "get rid of it". Cerberus, are you sure about the 196.x IP you're getting? Which tower?

PPP adapter sentech:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 196.34.xxx.xxx
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 196.34.xxx.xxx

I got this to SunningDale Tower in DBN it might just be for DBN to seperate JHB,PTA from our traffic.I dunno I'm as clueless on the changes as you guys I'm just taking a few guesses in the dark.

Pretty obvious where there problems are starting, isn't it? This time, it's not the backlinks between the towers causing problems either.

The strange thing is the 1st jump is still to a 66.18.xxx.xxx address I'm assuming that is the Sunningdale tower. but my IP is 196.34.xxx.xxx, I dunno. and the trace roots look okay to me?

Oh also wanted to add on Rodents test I scored a nice 169Kbtis/s ??

That appears to be an Internet Solutions IP range. Perhaps Sentech are leasing a few IP's from them. They may have run out?

Yeah their PPP servers route like crazy. They don't mind routing the 10.x.x.x stuff either. The first hops don't seem to care too much about modem user subnets.

Rodent - it seems [email protected] is no longer serviced ... according the the call centre message you need to send a mail to [email protected] ...

At least the [email protected] account gives delivery notification ;-(

I've had enough of this fscking crap .

Well I have finally received my modem. Im not happy with the speeds at all. Averaged 3.2KB/s on a download from Tucows (SAIX). On the modem itself it shows full signal, ie four lights but the signal strength is only 16%. Is there anyway other than the MySignal prog from ProAsm to measure signal strength. I get com port errors when running that prog and it wont connect.

I dont know if a slow but permanant internet connection is worth R649 X 24. There must be throughput issues with Sentech. This is the only explanation that could affect the entire country but it seems that most users simply put up with this crap and dont follow Rodents advice to log a call and get a ticket. Maybe just the users on this forum should stage a coordinated e-mail complaint to the support desk, maybe we would get some response...surely. But overall, nahhhhhh, im VERY disappointed after being kept waiting for so long. I cant believe that ADSL and MyWireless is the best internet connections that South Africa can offer the common public. so much for development.

Proasm was on the 196.35 range yesterday, Cerberus, are you on the 512K package?
the other similarity between you and Pro, is the Durban thing, like, whatever!

It seemed to have been a progressive change Dorris.. I have the 256k package... Proasm was the 1st to spot it. Just figured back then it was just for the 512k package it seems they are moving everyone over to IS's IP for some reason.. Who knows.

Yes, CT does suck just as badly. I will offer whatever support the "fellowship of the ping" may need. This is crap and it simply wont do.

My speeds had seemed to improve this morning. I was downloading 3 files from Kazaa at 5KB/s average each. Maybe the tower got up and moved?

Hi All

For us not on MW yet the feedback on this site is great. I'm actually considering 128 ISDN until Sentech sorts themselves out. A quick question for those on 64k / 128k ISDN, if your connection is idle for say more than 30 minutes...will the modem drop the connection if it finds no activity on the line? Maybe TheRoDent knows?

Thx
Guz

Hi Rodent,

How are you able to do a tracert? If I do it gets to the 3rd hop then time out, I thought perhaps sentech blocks tracert ?

Guztro

I have a 128k Imaginet connection and nope you don't need to do a thing to keep it alive it'll stay connected unless the server your dialing resets or kicks you off(doesn't happen alot)
