It's definitely better than it has been over the last week while they were doing the supposed "upgrades", but is no better than it was prior to that.

I'm still waiting for 1 September. For me that was always the date. Not too sure where the 25th came from. But anyhow, 1 Sept just feels right what with it officially Spring and all.

Don't take this for a sign of acceptance. 1 Sept is deffinitely TacNuke time!

Kai,

You mentioned you were going to test CoH on a friends ADSL. Did you get a chance to do this?

I haven had much need for complaining, only a few days recently have things gone down, but I now decided to do the SRT to see if maybe I simply don realise how bad the situation is.
Most users will hate me for posting this and making you jealous, but here goes.
All results are on a 128K connection with 7% signal

the 25th/26th comes from the post on Sentech's forum indicating that they expect all testing/upgrading on the 256K packages to be completed by the 25th of August.

Oh this is <s>good</s> news. From their forum:

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">
Upgrade on the MyWireless Network: 25 August

As indicated in the notice posted on 18th August 2004 we have implemented certain upgrades on the MyWireless 256 package and will implement similar upgrades on the MyWireless 128 and 512 products.

These upgrades will commence from 13h00 Wednesday 25th August 2004 and are expected to be completed by Monday 30th August 2004.

Any other upgrades or changes relating to these products will be posted on this bulletin board prior to being implemented.

From what I have seen on the forums, the 256k upgrade has resulted in serious degradation for the 256k users. My poor little 128k connection is going to die a terrible, terrible death at the hands of these monsters! Can't we get them arrested for murder of an innocent little connection? I mean, it had such high hopes and look at what is going to happen to it!

And FWIW before I logged on this afternoon mysignal showed the signal rapidly jumping from 8% to 13% with snl 0 to 6

I dont know if this is a good sign or a bad sign, or just a sign - from the virtual gods.

Cool thanks Kai.

Looks like I'm going to need it. As of yesterday my poor little 128 seems to have lost whatever bandwidth it used to have. Have to admit though, pings are consitantly much better. Sill on the high side, but I just did my first ever 0% loss.

Ping statistics for 66.18.65.115:
Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 100, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 56ms, Maximum = 697ms, Average = 171ms

OMG!!! So they have actually completed the 256Kb upgrade and I am getting the worst bandwidth now that I have ever had - this is fscking idiotic. Help! These ppl are clearly mad. Please undo the upgrade - my connection at least sometimes ran at 128kbps before they started. How am I supposed to get anything done online at 2KB??

Well, their "finetuning" has really stuffed up International Bowsing...doing the Rodent test, a local test from Tucows showed this:

linux:~ # wget http://tucows.is.co.za/files4/DCPlusPlus-0.241.exe
--21:35:10-- http://tucows.is.co.za/files4/DCPlusPlus-0.241.exe

21:37:22 (15.42 KB/s) - `DCPlusPlus-0.241.exe' saved [2044011/2044011]

Not too bad but not too good on a 256K package.

Now, the same test from a mirror in New York:

linux:~ # wget http://voxel.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/dcplusplus/DCPlusPlus-0.4032.exe
--22:04:04-- http://voxel.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/dcplusplus/DCPlusPlus-0.4032.exe

Resolving voxel.dl.sourceforge.net... 69.9.164.2
Connecting to voxel.dl.sourceforge.net[69.9.164.2]:80... connected.
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 200 OK
Length: 2,051,527 [application/octet-stream]

100%[====================================&gt;] 2,051,527 1.47K/s ETA 00:00

22:57:48 (637.48 B/s) - `DCPlusPlus-0.4032.exe' saved [2051527/2051527]

This is still the problem - it obviously indicates total incompetence and I think I am going to threaten them with an Attorney, we are simply being used as lab rats while the are learning Networking 104.

Anyone else get similar results?

My requirement is, local at least 28-30 KB/s on 256k package and intl at least 24-26 KB/s from decent servers otherwise it doesn't make sense to have a 256k package. If I am limited to 16 KB/s on local I can just as well get a 128k package. Sentech must make provison for downgrading your service - if that would help. [:(]

Good Day Gregory,

Looking at the below figures the first thing that I notice
is that you are running an older firmware version which
could very well be the cause of your problems.

Please use the Sentech software and on the "Tools" tab
select "Download and install upgrade"

This may rectify your problems. Please let us know if this
resolves your issues or not.

Well as the 128 users get "upgraded" I started running some tests.

Last night I had good P2P bw (14KB/s) and using Getright I could get 8K+ on a download from the US.

Tonight P2P is gone...maximum 1.5KB/s. It seems as if International BW is seriously restricted.

Here are some speed test results:

<b>Local Speed tests:</b>

Telkom Test:
* Download time: 31.797 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 128.3 (kilobits/second)[:)]
* Estimated line speed: 15.7 (kiloBytes/second)

Sentech Speed Test
Your download speed is: 13.03 KBps, or 104.27 Kbps
The test took 41.047 seconds to complete

Your upload speed is: 5.83 KBps, or 46.67 Kbps
The test took 340.406 seconds to complete

Rodent's speed test -Error: 404 page not found for meter.php ????

MyADSL speed test - no response, hangs (bwmeter shows minimum activity - maybe 1KB/s)

Local text based speed test(MyADSL):
Download size in thousands of bytes: 50
Throughput in Kilobits per Second: 114.5
Throughput in Kilobytes per Second: 14

SRT (from saix): 14.7KB/S with a single thread
SRT (from saix): 14.2KB/s with 4 threads (Getright)

<b>International speed tests:</b>

Stanford WEB100:
TCP/Web100 Network Diagnostic Tool v5.2.1e

running 10s inbound test (server to client) . . . . . . 5.63kb/s

UK ADSL Guide test...after 10 minutes shows error (BW Meter shows 1KB/s down and 6KB/s up)

International text based speed test(MyADSL):

Multi thread download (4 threads using Getright): 7.5KB/S
