I hate this secrecy crap. Who said "Sentech should inform us of what the problem is" ??

What makes us so special that we're not allowed to know what's happening ?

I think Rodent's silence is due to the fact that he's having fun with his new WBS(iBurst) unit...

hehe, if I took a bribe I'd not be using it to upgrade to 512K just yet noone ;-)

I believe the 256K users are suffering only because the new bandwidth management gear is being tested on their accounts. You guys seem to be hard limited to about 7.5KB a second ... If that is the case and you're latency and packet loss seems good I'd personally think things are looking up.

From the comments ProASM has made on the forum I think the guys in KZN might be the ones to tell us 1st if things come right.

MY secrecy is simple nonroker - I've been asked not to repeat the info I've been given - I intend to do that in order to continue receiving information.

Regardtv,

From your (slightly smug [;)]) post, can we assume that Sucktech have finally identified the problem(s)??

If so, that would be a breakthrough.

That sounds about right... So we (256k users) will be limited to 60kbps connections... even though we PAY for 256k service - how lovely

Let us just hope it isn't permanent otherwise I'm going to be forced to adjust my debit order accordingly [:D] (23.4375% of R849)

What good does it do according to Sentech to keep everyone in the dark?

Im sure they've noticed that people start speculating, many times in the wrong direction, usually this is also bad for new business. Why can't they say What they are trying to do to fix the problems, even though it might not work. If not anything else, at least to prove to the very unhappy client base that things are actually happening.

The only reason I can think of for the secrecy now is that someone is about to sign a big contract?

Does this have any influence on us:

you know, what really grinds my balls is the fact that they didn't TEST properly.... now we pay for a sub standard service while they're playing around with "settings"

I am also assuming now that this limit is only until the 'testing' has finished, hopefully by the 25th of Aug and that bandwidth levels will return to 'normal' after that.
At the moment I can upload about twice as fast as what I can download...strange. 6KB/s dl 12KB/s ul

I am giving these guys the benefit of the doubt until the 25th Aug - after which all secrecy will be revealed. Maybe they found a way to bypass the SAT3 hellkom cable through an interspatial fibre-optic relay bringing int ping times down to sub 2ms. [:D]

Smug ?? [:D] Not at all...

Personally I think Sentech have had an idea of what is wrong for some time.

As I'm not employed or involved directly with Sentech I cannot say anything for certain. It's simply that listening to what is being said in the industry they are making the "right" noises....

At this stage of the game I've all but given up on MySmokeSignal... I primarily use the iBurst unit at the moment ... If Sentech cannot get the nuts and bolts in order I'm outta here as soon as I possibly can. As my signature says - 26th is D-Day for me.

My 1.28k package is so bad that I judge the length of time it takes to display a page on this forum, I think a 500k sepedtesdt would take an hour. [xx(]

/ME NEEEDS iBurst ASAP!!!!

It looks soooooooooo cool. AND the more of us they sign on as beta testers, the more "stress testing" they can do, which will iron out S&!# like what sectech is experencing now....

Latest 24hr SRT results:

Average: 2.63KB/s
Maximum: 6.54KB/s
Current: 2.65KB/s

Looks like us 256k users have now officially joined the *** speed section [:(]

i can confirm that my 256k seems "hard-limited" to about 64kb / 8kB

interesting thing is that downloading up to 4 connection threads
makes *no* improvement anymore - ?

packetloss is very good,
but web pages take 60 sec plus before they start
SMTP and FTP start quickly

something has surely changed - hope its a good sign...

In my opinion, The only reason packet loss was good yesterday, was because the network had a low load on it.
If nobody could get more than 6K, its equivalent to days when sentech lose international etc.
My packet loss this morning is back up to 8%, I'm sure i'll see it climb to 12/16% by the end of the day.

Packetloss is definitely not caused by any "wireless" reason. If I run pathping to sentech.co.za, I have 1% loss over the first hop (from me to the tower). But from hop 2 to 3 (66.18.67.106 to 66.18.67.105) there is 11% packet loss, from 3 to 4 (to 66.18.67.25) there is another 6%, and from hop 5-6 (66.18.67.250 to 66.18.67.203) another 4%.....

The loss is definitely within THEIR network...Signal strength/SNL/BER has F#$% all to do with it.

MW128, Tower 60(Northpark Plaza), Signal:16%,S-N-L: 7, BER: 45%

Methinks it's their microwave links that are a bit stuffed. So I guess it is wireless, just not IPWireless. But this packet loss is crazy. Averages for me at 15% - 20% loss on local stuff. Completely negates the point of MyW for me.
