im finding the opposite. which is classic of a network with random bandwidth management. I cant browse and emule wont make connections at any speed (both maxed to 3KB/sec) yet if I open a torrent it uses up the full 14 or so KB/sec.

How informed is the frontline technical support?? I got my second call today since logging my ticket - told them all speeds still fsck'ed up and I give sentech till the end of aug to fix...I know I know been said a thousand times. Let's see - p2p seems to be badly affected, can't connect at all sometimes, the choice is being taken away from the customers and btw not all p2p is bad.

Here's hoping that something dramatic happens by 1 Sept 2004 not 1 Sept 2400.

Tonight takes the cake - I am limited to 1KB/s for all types of traffic - took me 5 minutes to open this topic.

256k running at 8k - how slow can yo go...

nonroker like your signature very original. Wonder how much sentech is forking out for this bandwidth management software?

I don't think they're forking out anything.

Probably got some student fresh out of varisty to set it up with no real world knowledge of networks or contention ratios.

aborg, yeah..I thought so aswell [:)] Now trying to find a name for the current local half speed intl dog slow situation I'm finding myself in....

thats unfair to the student.. Im not out varsity yet and I understand networks and CR's etc. I would rather have gone for a token/quote/EE person with the incorrect skills [:p]
My guess is that the plugged everyone into a router (one router) and hooked its WAN port to their access equipment. Thus, random bandwidth management in place.

lol

I apologize to any students who might have been offended by my statement. But fact is fact. Of the 100 odd students in their final year at a univ/college only about 10% REALLY know what they're doing, the rest are all only "book smart"

Think of yourself as part of the 10% [;)]

Speed's up to **** again. Had a torrent going for 35 hours now (with no other downloads on the go) and have downloaded a grand total of 80MB - that's 0.65KBps (5Kbps). There are lots of seeds for the torrent, so I don't think it's a question of availability. Plus, I'm having the same problem with just about every torrent I have tried. My torrent client estimates another 400 hours for my current download to complete. Yeah right, that's 17 days man! I am one unhappy customer at the moment. [:(]

actually.. sometimes I feel I know squat but I do get what you are saying. A lot of my buddies have never heard of contention ratio but they still get high marks so it "looks" like they know whats cooking. The problem is that those guys get picked thanks to their marks being good (so what - they can study..) and people like me (who know stuff) suffer since we have average marks. Anyways Im just fed up with this phenomenon and the wrong people being employed-much like you described.

Yup, my 64kb "hard-cap" has just dropped to 16kb
(256kb pkg - mitek tower)

As i float in slow-motion suspense and
my coffee-cup to page-view ratio approaches 1:1
i can't help feeling that this must be a dream - it has to come right soon
if only they'd tell us what tfs happening...

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..........

wow! you're getting 8KBps!?! COOOOOL!

i get 0.8KBps... is that fast? I'm not too sure - for R860 a month, it has to be fast.

I'm so lucky to have a connection as cool as this one!

Seem to have reverted to the original situation on the 256kb package where you got max 4KB on singlethread d/l's and 20KB plus on multithread d/l's. My connection feels like it has reverted to exactly where it was prior to the "upgrades" that were supposed to affect only 256kb users. It's definitely better than it has been over the last week while they were doing the supposed "upgrades", but is no better than it was prior to that.
