Speedster caught doing 189km/h

It's not about how fast you can drive, it's about reaction time and stopping distance, and at those speeds it just gets stupid.

With goats, cattle and crazy pedestrians in the mix. It might be safe to travel at 189km/h, but on the majority of our roads it's just plain stupid.
 
On our roads with our drivers thats a mad speed to try. On the autobahn well ok no problem.

It's quite easy to achieve in that car. Also feels safe.

Well that is plain stupid. I have driven those roads hundreds of times and there are animals all over. That and the fact that those roads are in a poor state and there is very little of it that is very straight.
I have seen many people driving at that speed when I travel that road, I have also often seen those same people a few k's further up the road after they rolled their car.
So yeah if you are stupid enough to entrust someone to drive you through those roads at those speeds then I just hope that no one else gets taken out in the inevitable crash that will follow at some stage.
 
What I find quite funny about all of this is how everyone recons it doesnt feel that fast.
Sure it doesnt but guess what happens if you suddenly need to slam on brakes for something? Well nothing because you will already have driven into it. So good luck to you if that happens to be a pedestrian because you will earn yourself a criminal record for that and possibly some jail time.

Well, the moment you hit a stray animal at that speed, a few bad apples will be removed from the human gene-pool.
I'm sure you can go faster if you try...no wait...I triple-dare you to go faster :)

Bad apples? 185 is not that fast in a straight line. For people who do 80 or 100 in a 120 zone yes sure it seems like warp speed i guess :D.

I suggest you visit www.rotten.com and have a look at graphic photos of MVA's.

I've seen folks like you doing 185 between EL and Mthatha. I've also seen your body parts scattered across the highway after losing control of the vehicle. You're not just putting yourselves at risk, but us as well. Vehicles overtaking on blind rises, school children crossing the road everywhere. Next time leave 15mins earlier and drive like a civilized human being.

I've done it loads of times too in my early days & have done Bulawayo to Beit Bridge in 1 hour 55 minutes.

With today's cars it is very hard to drive a car on the freeway at half the speed it was designed for and I'm grateful for cruise control.

Really? The only thing I encounter on the entire stretch of road from Cape Town to Somerset West is people driving below the speed limit and hogging both lanes. And then they still slam on their brakes at the fixed cameras. Which is all typical for Cape Town. It would be a vast improvement if people did speed.

What is the pedestrian doing on the highway? Pedestrians who cannot learn to cross a road have no place doing so, and only themselves to blame if they get run over. Note I don't speed. It is best to run pedestrians down at the speed limit.

oh wait ... probably as effective as RICA in controlling crime :rolleyes:
