How do I change the default language of OS X built-in spell checker? It's stuck on "US English" so apps like Mail checks spelling against US dictionary instead of GB/UK. Firefox, of course, uses it's own, so that's not a problem.

OK, I'm not 100% there with the Mac logic yet - I expected to find it in System Preferences.

Dictionary - Preferences only shows me the following:

Dictionary - "New Oxford American Dictionary"
Thesaurus - "Oxford American Writer's Thesaurus"
Apple - "Apple Dictionary"
Japanese - <queue Japanese characters>
Japanese-English -
Japanese Synonyms
Wikipedia

Under The Dictionary it gives me the option of British pronunciation but that doesn't affect spelling.

Go to System Preferences > International. Click the "Edit List..." button and select "British English". Drag the "British English" entry in the list on the left to the top.

To set the language in Mail... go to the Edit menu > Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar, and at the bottom of the spelling window you can select British English and it should keep that setting. :)

Aah sweet! thaks pbn - that sorted it

Dictionary still doesn't show me British English though
