Spore has landed...

Hahaha, I was running around in the creature stage, and stopped to try and befriend another species. While I was busy with that, we were all splattered by a HUGE red bugger, must have been one those mythical 'epic creatures'.
 
I dont know what you guys think, but I think SPORE is a HUGE disappointment! IMO its totally crap. I played one serious cession on Friday and didnt touch it the rest of the weekend. My wife LOVED it.. while she was playing the tidal pool stage and the creature stage she was going on about how the game was going to ruin her life and that she wouldnt have any time for me anymore. She also lasted one cession. By the time she got to the tribal stage she was all Spore'd out. I uninstalled it on Sunday afternoon and feel like i wasted R350. IMHO, if you havent already bought Spore.. then dont! Its not even a case of I have to check it out for myself. Its cr4p and its not even down to the fact that after all teh uild up it couldnt possibly live up to what people expect. Its just crap!
 
I'm enjoying it so far. Definitely not as amazing it was hyped to be, but I was pretty much expecting that. I'm not disappointed.

The funnest part of the game was the tidal pool phase! I played that a WHOLE TWO TIMES!!

I was thinking about this game and I think there are many problems. Maybe the vision was too ambitious!! I'm a hardcore gamer and I am not sure how I feel about the whole casual gamer thing. But I read that what they were trying to do was make a game that both hardcore gamers and casual gamers alike would find enjoying! Tidal pool phase, simple, interesting, intriguing, and really made me think this game was going to get more and more awesome. Creature stage, I found to be a bit tedious. When I got to the tribal stage I found the controls be a bit muggy and unresponsive. When I got the the city stage, I lost all interest. The game is difficult to understand and you don't really get the point of what it is your supposed to be doing.

All in all, I think the later stages get lost somewhere in the middle in that I think the game is not to intricate enough for hardcore gamers, but too complicated for casual gamer. My wife LOVED the first two stages, but when it got to the tribal and city stages she lost interest FAST!!! I would have liked to have seen a tribal stage that's more like warcraft, and a city stage that's maybe more like simcity.

I think developers need to either make casual games or games for hardcore gamers.

This is one facet of the game that I think is lacking. But other than that I dont know why so many magazines are giving it such high scores!?!!??!

*sigh* Your uber-stoking-super-bbq PC probably cost you at least R8k 3 years ago. My XBOX cost me R3k a year ago. I will be able to play games on it at full detail, highest resolution with AA and AF on for the next 4 years, at least. You will have to upgrade your PC in that time, costing you at least another R3/4k to stay up to speed.

@Keeper - you keep on mentioning that the money XBOX gamers spend on games, you spend on hardware. You also mention that you play loads of games... So, where do you find money to buy games then?

Simple equation:

2 XBOX games = R1200, 2 games/month = R14,400 / year
Nice, expensive PC with loads of power = R14,4000 / year

So, conclusion:
XBOX gamer has a console and 24 games.
PC gamer has a nice, powerful PC with 0 games. Where's the fun in that?;)

About magazines giving it a high score and judging from what you said, I'm starting to wonder myself. IGN gave it 9\10. Guess I'll have to see for myself.

You can build a very good pc for less than R14400. Even less if you keep your monitor,hard drives,dvd drive and case from your previous pc.

Sorry Spore fans but I have to chip in here.

No, you have 24 Games, I have >100 Games.

Also, I did not spend close to R14,000 on PC Hardware :p

BTW, Xbox owners also need to buy a few Upgrades, like a PC User would upgrade his Monitor, you need to do that as well. Sound/Speakers also - unless you like to play Crash Bandicoot on sucky TV Sound :D
 
I like the game. Gotten to the tribal stage so far. Only thing that sucks is I haven't been able to locate the parts to create an omnivore.:(
