Springboks EOYT 2012

I just don't feel like watching Bok matches anymore. I use to get so excited during the week for the big game on Saturdays.

Its at times like this I wish I was a AB supporter. We are just so fuking boring to watch.

Sad times :(

That statement is SO sad, but also SO TRUE. I will still support my country till I die, but it is becoming agonising to watch.

And do you guys really think by changing our backline, its going to make a difference. Forgive me if I am wrong, our wings especially is not getting the ball enough to do anything. And when the fullback does get the ball, he kicks it out. Yes sometimes you have to kick it out to relieve the pressure, but why kick if you on the attack.

I also noticed with the few minutes that I watched of the game. The only time JP got close to the ball is when he was in the middle of the park and not actually on the wing.

Can't we play pile driving Rugby, but also spread the ball ? I am sure we got the attacking players to do this

Nope you will never again see a Bok side score 4 tries - unless the forwards score more than 3!

MS will be flyhalf against Eng and he will kick 100% - 12-15 points and be heralded as being on form again and we wont see a change until Goosen is fit again. But I hope Goosen doesn't play because HM will force him to kick the ball and then he will also slip in the way Lambie has slipped. Fans asked for Lambie and got a Lambie who plays like Steyn. If Goosen does that it will be a sad day for any rugby lover..

JdJ had half a chance and only saw the ball once, pitty he didn't score 2 tries from that single possession he had. HM will justify the inclusion of Taute at 13 because he will be up against Tuilangi and JdJ is too small what what.

You have to earn the right to go wide. Until we able to carry the ball through more than 6 or 7 phases of play we haven't earned the right to go wide. In other words recycling the ball phase after phase has the net effect of sucking in defenders, thereby fragmenting the defensive line so that when the ball does go down the back line, gaps appear which can be exploited.

Unfortunately we simply unable to hold onto the ball for extended periods of time, either turning it over in the contact situation, or knocking it on, or kicking it away.

We very much in a rebuilding phase though.

We don't currently have a pack that hunts as one. They disjointed and unfamiliar with one another. Consider the personnel either retired or unavailable and it's no surprise. John Smit, Juan Smith, Bakkies, Victor, Pierre, Brussouw, Schalk, Bismarck etc etc etc

And then our back line, pitiful but missing Jacque Fourie, Fourie Du Preez, out of form Morne Steyn, Frans Steyn, Johan Goosen etc etc etc

Just to add, we can be critical of our backline and the way they playing but it all begins and ends with the forwards. Crap ball for the scrumhalf translates into crap ball for 10,12,13 and the rest of the backline.

We can critical of Hougaard on the wing but how is it his fault if he is not getting any quality ball? I don't see him missing tackles or dropping balls or being out of position so he's done that end of his job. That he doesn't get the ball in space isn't his problem. It's a symptom of the pack being unable to secure phase ball and create gaps for the wings to run into.

If England play like they did against Australia I think we are going to have lots of problems.

Cape Town - Revolutionary changes to the game-plan for South Africa’s final Test of the year against England at Twickenham on Saturday?

Forget it, I suspect.

At least for the time being, the Springbok hierarchy - coaches and senior players alike - will almost certainly continue to take accusations that they are blunt, boring and brutally forward-obsessed stubbornly on the chin.

Video highlights: Scotland v South Africa

The Boks are on the verge of a first clean-sweep conquest in the northern hemisphere since 2008, when it was also a relatively short, three-match undertaking.

Thus far, the tours have other things in common: after the first two matches four years ago, South Africa’s wins (against Wales and Scotland) had also not earned especially enthusiastic acclaim.

The then-World Cup champions had beaten the Welsh 20-15 and the Scots 14-10, and there was a school of thought that both matches had actually deserved to go the other way - at least this time, the 16-12 and 21-10 victories over Ireland and Scotland respectively have been reasonably apt outcomes whatever the merits and demerits of the South African performances.

Be that as it may, the Boks of 2008 - touring with a stronger pool of first-team stalwarts than they are now, it probably needs to be noted - were stung into more fluid action in the last match at “Twickers”, posting a record tally of points against the unsuspecting English at their stronghold as they romped home 42-6 and by five tries to nil.

It may be seriously optimistic to expect anything like that score-line again, and maybe also the 20-14 loss for the home side against the so-so Wallabies this weekend wasn’t quite the result the 2012 Boks might have hoped for; England ought to be in some sort of chastened, redemption mode on Saturday.

Once again, however, you can safely bet that Heyneke Meyer will gratefully bank another win, virtually regardless of how it is achieved.

Without wishing to sound like the apologist for the head honcho that I am defiantly not, Bok coaches always have to be mindful of their “win/loss ratios” because they are, simply, constantly reminded of them by public and press alike.

Meyer entered this particular tour under pressure on that front - he had hitherto managed a dangerously low four triumphs from nine starts, and suddenly his six from 11 seems rather more palatable on paper, doesn’t it?

If he can claim England’s scalp for the third time in four meetings this season (one dead-rubber draw at Port Elizabeth), his record will balloon, whether you like it or not, to seven from 12.

He would have some pretty good statistical ammunition, under those circumstances, for saying that his troops are slowly maturing and that winning is at least starting to become a bit more habitual again after his first season at the job.

This might again sound like a defence of Meyer, but the end-of-year venture is also a less than suitable or realistic time for many of his near-exhausted, over-played resources to be willing to tear up a template at short notice and muster the mental energy to determinedly make it “sexier” with the snap of the fingers.

The vast majority of the key Bok players, I have no doubt, will happily eke out another win in London, by hook or by crook, and then go off on much-needed holiday.
Regroup? Rethink? Pah, save it for next year.

Good read.

Etzebeth has been cited for allegedly eye gouging the Scottish flyhalf.

Hearing is tomorrow.

We need a good win against England to ensure that we retain the 2nd spot on the IRB rankings. The ranking as at 3 December 2012 will be used for the pools/seedings for the next RWC.

Yeah. I remembering seeing him catch their fly half high but then basically rolled his hands over the guys face. Don't think there was any malicious intent but most likely the hearing will prove otherwise.

With the bias (whether real or perceived) against the Boks by citing officials, I predict he will be found guilty and given a 4 match ban.

Any bets?

Hehe. I'd rather play Lotto. :)

IMO there is no bias. It is simply a case of better representation by legal teams from other countries. And SA players are to quick to admit guilt and then not fight for lesser sentences.

We won't slip beyond 4th so we can theoretically still lose this one and not be too frazzled.

Nah he'll get a stern 8 week ban which won't count for anything bar the Eng game!

Bit late but anyway.

JC Janse van Rensburg called up to replace injured CJ van der Linde.

CJ should never have been there at the expense of JC who had a cracker of a Currie Cup and showed he is a natural leader. Always feel you can't have too many leaders in a team to keep everybody calm and focused.

Pleased to see the lad is being given his reward and chance to show his ability. No player in the team should be assured of their spot, but should always be there on merit.

And we do need some calm heads in the pack, especially to keep the likes of Etsebeth focused ;)
