Spur confrontation "sends poor message to children": Gender Equality Commission

The Commission for Gender Equality has weighed in after video footage of two parents arguing at an eatery went viral online.

The group's Mbuyiselo Botha says the altercation sends a poor message to the children who witnessed it firsthand.

"It sends a very sad message to children. As they grow up, they will internalise this knowing that women are inferior and available to men. They can be shouted at, threatened and bullied because we can as men," he said.

The double standards also apply to forums, where people bitch about racism but are quite happy with racism as long as it isn't directed at them/their group

This probably wasn't a racist incident, but **** me, expecting two adults to act like adults in a public setting somehow turns into 400 post discussion on who was actually right and wrong in this instance

Or judging by this woman's behaviour, the children present will internalise this knowing that women can do what they want because they know that men may do nothing to them. They can shout at, threaten and bully because they can as women.

I once was faced with a similar incident at a parents' gathering at my daughter's school. I asked my daughter if she had tripped the child in question and she said yes and it was a mistake - I called the other kid and I told my daughter to apologise and forced them to hug and 'take 5'. And that was really the end of it.

We have to handle these situations on behalf of our children in a manner that is mature and is a lesson for all involved. It is not okay to spew profanities in front of children. They did not learn anything valuable from this situation. Perhaps even traumatised by it all.

Does a woman wearing revealing clothes justify a man raping her? Also she was not the instigator. After he grabbed her child/god child she lost it.

No, I have never met all SA men and I never said all SA men are like that. I said a lot of them are like that. I stand by my statement whether that makes me sexist or not. I believe it to be the truth otherwise there wouldn't be such a prevailing and persistent abuse of women and children in this country. Refusing to see or turning a blind eye to it or refusing to admit it is part of the problem.

I hate how this discussion is gravitating towards "how fragile/vulnerable ALL women are and they should be treated with the utmost care.

1 idiot did this but all men are being painted with the samwe brush.

Yes there are some misogynistic men out there but we cant vilify ALL men.

I feel like men will be pushed under the bus, due to this saga.

We teach little girls, they are equal BUT forget to mention that they get special treatment from society, which can lead to them becoming entitled.

Little boys are taught to respect females BUT are we going to tell them the truth?

Never agrue with a female or you will feel the backlash of society.
