Spur Steaks Suck!

OK, we can do this...
but we need some ground rules though.
This thread is claiming that Spur steaks are not just mediocre, but that they are actually bad ... uneatable.
So how are we going to gauge this?

We need to organise a few outings to some Random Spur restaurants, and to some mutually agreed Indpendent Restaurants.
Then our panel of chosen experts can give us their honest findings.

meh you shifting the goal posts
spur steaks are not great, but of course they edible.

for the same price or less you can have a far better meal.

Went to turn and tender recently in cresta with the SO, the one guy was walking around with the different types of cuts... explaining the difference etc

i ended up ordering a t bone i think (done american style where they cut it for you)
the meat had absolutely no taste :( was not impressed at all. i ordered it done medium and it was done to perfection just the meat itself had no taste very bland.

:erm:

Why all the hassle, since its subjective anyway, you take the guy to get a great, in your mouth, spur steak, and he takes you to where he thinks it's the dogs balls and you can compare ?

OP said he couldn't finish the steak. He had to leave it uneaten.
And others have echoed the same sentiment.

Are you saying now that they are not that bad?

No, they are crap and over priced for the **** they serve, that fact remains, but I usually finish my food and if its that bad I call the manager and say taste this or this steak is rubber or whatnot.

Spur's used to source locally and make their own desserts/sauces on site. So your experience in one town's Spur differed to another, and at the end you'll find the "best" one and keep going there instead of your local town's perhaps.

This all changed to mass-produced mass-shipped products so that the "experience" is the same no matter which Spur you visit. The biggest mistake they could make IMO (other than the other racial BS)

You mean, they traded the natural ingredients for chemicals and rubbish :)

OK so put your money where your mouth is then.
You'll cook me a perfect steak or take me out to dinner to eat the perfect steak.
So that I can see what the difference is then...
Because I think you guys are just full of bull.
This just seems to be another "let's hate on the popular thing thread and show how cool we are by being so different"
And I'm calling you guys on it. It's BS.
There is no way Spur would be the restaurant they are today if they served crap.
This is a cut-throat economy.
Bad service and bad food don't survive.

I can probably still finish a meal, but the quality can be lacking sometimes. The only reason I go to a spur is if there is no other restaurant around with a playground. That's most probably their biggest selling point.

The breakfast is nice but their coffee taste like piss.

The bottomless coffee is the right way to start any day.
Too much coffee in the morning and I'm the one who's going to be bottomless...
Well, I regularly eat at many different independent eateries.... and Spurs steaks are as good as the best of them.
So your theory is denied.
I'm not one to question your choice in eateries... but I'm going to have to question your choice of eateries.

Come to PE - I'll cook you a steak... it might not be beef, but I don't think you'll notice.

Challenge accepted - BTW dinner only, no funny ideas...

You will have to come to Centurion though......................

Centurion's best-kept secret, believe it or not, is a dive called The Purple Chair. Great steaks and great value for money.

An entire 7 page thread created by the OP stating the obvious! :crylaugh:

I’ve never had what I would call good meat at Spur.

It’s usually tough, not matured, full of sweet basting (hate that).

I’ve had several times rotten meat and had to get it changed, and it’s flipping expensive for what it is.

Many restaurants are cheaper and better, and even if it wasn’t I’d rather have a smaller portion for a better quality.

If you like it, good for you. We have very different tastes I guess.

(Says that while having very late lunch at the Grillhouse).

Never order steak at restaurants, its the one thing that is so easy to prepare well yourself if you select the right cut and cook it yourself.

Depends of the steak.

Try getting 90 days steaks. I’ve never seen at any butcher in SA apart from Marble’s (where the butcher is insanely expensive) or at restaurants.

If you know where I can get it in Joburg, I’m keen.
