Spur Steaks Suck!

Thanks Neinfeshen & I.Am.Sam

I'll try those suggestions. I dont usually have the pan on very hot first - i put the meat in then turn the heat on.

I also tried Microwaving it first to get the inside cooked and just brown the outside in the pan but it was still very tough.
Fccking hell. I guess we all have to learn sometime, but that's barbaric.

I feel like if this were a real room i'de be tied to a chair and getting smacked by steak lovers lol

Count yourself lucky, you could have been given a Spur Gift Card.

:( . do what the others have suggested here. Its dead easy to cook a steak. Just dont do what you are doing

I was at Spur on Friday. As a Restaurant their steak's are not the best no, but compared to what I can do with steak at home they're MORE than adequate.

It doesnt matter whether I try cook a rump, sirloin or expensive aged Fillet at home - they all turn to leather :(

So yeah, Spur is fine for me when i want steak.

Just pop them in the toaster...

lol. So i followed the directions here, and the steaks came out very nice actually. I foresee many more being made at home and less from Spur :)

I've read the whole thread. I think Lazylion works for Spur, lolz.

Don't ever eat a steak at spur! dog****e!

There burgers are okay I guess but really expensive for such a average burger. Chips have gone down too as well as service. If it weren't for the kids playpen, it would be finished.

Reverse sear is the best way to cook a steak, bar none (well, perhaps apart from a sous vide). You can get a very precise interior with little trouble. 25 -30 minutes in the oven at 135c (set a timer on your phone), let it rest for 10 minutes while you warm up a pan or grill, then slap it on a searing high heat. It's much more forgiving and controllable than doing it straight on the pan/braai.

Just wait until you put it on coals like its supposed to be. It will feel like you are breaking your mouth virginity

:wtf: How do you know what dog****e tastes like?

I've tried to eat a Spur Steak before. I'm not 100% sure but from my experience, there probably isn't much difference between the two? I'd go with a 1% difference possibly?

Please pardon the weird colours, taking pictures tends to escape me. Was delicious though.

So it's an assumption, just like everyone else in this thread. Nothing more than subjective opinion. No different to my opinion.

Eh? I don't think that's how it works. It's actually pretty difficult to mess up a steak as long as you control the timings and the heat. The factors that differentiate a mediocre from a great steak are, for instance, the quality and aging of the cut, the sauce, the char, and the pink line. On all those fronts, a Spur steak is passable at best.

The sauce was snipped out of a plastic packet and microwaved. The cut and quality of meat are basically indifferent. There are no stages to the cook, so the sear is greyish and the interior is uneven. You're acting pretty bolshy for someone who clearly doesn't know very much about steak.
