Spur Steaks Suck!

You wouldn't be friends with my wife. Only eats really well done meat.
I kinda get it - her folks only eat meat really well done so it's all she knows. Trying her to go to at least medium but don't think it'll work. The stomach wants what the stomach wants.
You need to teach the unwashed or they will never see the light. My wife was the same, also had no appreciation for dry wines. Within the first year of marriage she was already eating medium-rare and hating sweet wine. She also loved cats ... we have a dog! :D

The gift that keeps giving:
What a great way to say **** you to someone. I'll have to remember this.

Be patient. My wife was the same way but I fixed her.

I was at Spur on Friday. As a Restaurant their steak's are not the best no, but compared to what I can do with steak at home they're MORE than adequate.

It doesnt matter whether I try cook a rump, sirloin or expensive aged Fillet at home - they all turn to leather :(

So yeah, Spur is fine for me when i want steak.

cast iron pan

very very very hot

few mins like 2-3 mins each side

flip often as well . you just want some dark lines on it if you can and take off

rest for few mins and eat

Yeah kinda different in our house.
Reminds me of a line from some sitcom: "Wife wanted a cat, I'm allergic, so we compromised and got a cat"
Pretty much how it goes down.
But I'm part of the unwashed as well - yes I'll order my steak medium rare but I'm not fussed if it's well done. Like I said before, we're not really food people. We enjoy what we enjoy with no real care on how it's "supposed" to be cooked. Chicken, man I couldn't tell you if the chicken I'm eating is dry or moist if my life depended on it - it's chicken! No such thing as bad chicken in my world.
So for some well done is sacrilege; for us, meh, it's all good.

Another good thing about the usually Friday breakfast is I am only one with a Spur family card.

People who like Spur steaks are like flat-earthers.

No point trying to prove anything.

science enthusiasts.

I require more proof that Spur Steaks suck, other than just a few biased opinions. ;)
Particularly when those anecdotal incidents don't square with my own experiences.

I'll try those suggestions. I dont usually have the pan on very hot first - i put the meat in then turn the heat on.

I also tried Microwaving it first to get the inside cooked and just brown the outside in the pan but it was still very tough.

Those two things are verging on absolute insanity! No offence. :o The upside is that your problem is going to be very easy to remedy.

Hot cast iron pan is the best. Season the steak with some salt and pepper, heat up the pan, bit of olive oil, and off you go. Turn it often.

If you are going to add butter do it at the end so it doesn't have a chance to burn.

Here's the big one... take the steak out an hour before you cook it so it can come up to room temp. You can season it while it's sitting there.
