Hey Guys.

Someone suggested I get a faster HDD as it would speeeeed things up quite a bit.

So, do I wait for the SSD drives to become more mainstream or go and get a WD raptor? Will i honestly notice that much of a difference from a 7200rpm sata 2 drive to a raptor?

:D

FANKS!

So you reckon I should do it?

Im planning on running windows 7 on a dual boot. I would like the new OS to then run on the raptor drive but I do not want to do it if there is not a major performance increase.

Depends what you want to speed up? Your system, and games, will load quicker - as will any disk activity. So it depends on your circumstances; I work will a lot of VM's and benefit far more from using many smaller, slower, disks than a single fast disk....

Problem is the guy is in Parktown. Postman... You know that when I want things I want them SOON :D
How much is a new one?
Like R 3500?

Parktown, no problem , mypro as in you will have it next day post office counter to counter.

I got my one from pietersburg like that shipped, no problem.

I personally run one of these veloci's

Why pay the premium for a new one , when you can save and enjoy the benefit the veloci now and have the extra cash for the ssd later.

Dude i would suggest to you getting an ssd, i have had raptors 74gb in raid, flippin fast a velociraptor 300gb amazing how fast that was but i have never in my life seen speed like i have on my samsung ssd.

You will notice a massive improvement from a 7200rpm drive to a raptor/ssd drive.

What are you wanting to do, just gaming and normal pc stuff?

Yip...

YGPM.

They are pricey new. Second-hand deals are great. Speed Services overnight. ;)

The OCZ SSD Drives from the testing I have done and played with personally are exceptionally fast, the pricing on them is much cheaper than some of the intel ones aswell, the vertex drive delivered over 200mbs read and write consistently,
They are avaialble from Prophecy and I think landmark from what I have seen.

Hmmm.
I have 4x 500 gig drives and 1x 320 running windows and games...
So, I plan to just take out the 320 all together and run something else...

I hate decisions :(

I am the owner of those two drives. Note 1 is already sold. Please PM me if you want the other one.

Thanks Razer.
Ill see what happens.

So it seems that the drive will make a big difference...
I must admit, everything is pretty fast already, I mean I cannot complain but the load times on Vista suck!

I would say sell up all your hdd's go the 1.5TB route and the single veloci.

Veloci's FTW, for short term.

I am biding my time until the 256GB SSD's experience a price drop then I am going the SSD route.

I dont much care for a 32/64/128GB drive.

256Gb or bust - SLC SSD at that also

Could also be a plan. I just do not like that fact of having everything on one drive though... Ive killed a few in my time.

ok cool. Ill think about it and see what the best route is.
Thanks so much for the info!!!

Good luck choosing. The SSD route is also tricky because only a couple of the current offerings support the Windows 7 TRIM command.

I read that too.
This is why I need to know what route to go...

Problem is the SSD's are so expensive!
