Stage 1 loadshedding from 9am Monday

Serviced the generator this morning - the oil was like molasses. :o

I know ours was done manually, they trenched fiber there a month ago to be able to turn off remotely.

Which municipality?

I know Ekhuruleni on the East Rand had complete remote control back in the early 90's already (The then Kempton Park and Germiston municipality). My dad did a lot of their industrial systems implementation.

Eskom direct, they built a new substation since lots of development.

Power did get restored around 12pm. We are scheduled to go off at 15:00 again.....

The problem at Brakfontein sub is the transformers. If it's not lightning taking them out it's overload. The burned out transformers are stacking up in the sub station. See them every day when I pass there.

Wonder if we will trip again at 17:00.... I give up.:rolleyes:

Sure, until a surge blows their fancy switchgear into tiny pieces. then it is back to a human in a car driving around switching OFF maybe but definitely ON. We have just experienced a power flick as the TSH idiots replaced the fancy switchgear this morning and put it back online again.

In the olde days, we used to run diesel generators regardless of requirements for a fixed period every month. Oil changes were one of the least pleasant tasks at remote sites! The things we MW guys learnt to do!

So you are also in zone 13? power scheduled to drop now again at 15:00. Fortunately this morning ours came back at 09:07. BUT it was because there was a human at the substation. - It did not get switched back remotely - he and a crew were busily replacing the fancy remote-controlled switch this morning.

edit:/ 15:05 -- Power off right on schedule, accompanied by a Voltage spike. 550 Volt. ( might have been larger - I d not have the right test instrument to measure these things accurately)
Now we wait and see waht happens at 17:00

in our muncipal area it is remote switching, so yes they drive there and switch it on and off, one of the reasons why we dont have loadshedding after 10pm ;P
 
guys... the switching geyser thing... it does and does not work... it depends on a few factors such as geyser insulation and lifestyle habits. can we just agree to disagree and that it works for some and not for others?

Yes Group 13. They did not switch us off at 15:00. Power still on.

Full disclosure... mine's never been serviced. It's still relatively new though.

It completely died the other day and black soot buildup on the spark plug made me thing it was probably time.

That is not fair!! Discrimination I tell you! We have been off now for 11.5 hours out of 18!
I going out in the rain to go and eat worms after kicking the neighbour's cat into the pool! :crying:

Well feels good to have something in my favor for a chance. :) Sorry for you it's almost over then there is tomorrow again :cautious:
