Stage 2 load shedding this weekend

i thought medupi was online?? why is this needed then?
guess this is just their way of making us more amenable to the high increase on the cards

Medupi is not really online as in not yet synced to the grid. That will take a couple of months yet, they're running late on their promise to sync unit six to the grid last December. At the moment they're just running it and testing

Lol, I doubt Medupi will be finished this decade, or it will face extreme problems at least. Wrong way around chimneys, pipework that is not designed properly due to chimney etc.

I'll put R10,000 that it will completely be finished this decade.

Guys, please remember that during stage one blackouts 1000MW of the national load is cut, 2000MW during stage two, and 4000MW in stage three.
How does that help anyone? Your area is either on or off...

Leaving you with 9 months breathing room assuming Eskom hits all its deadlines.

They'll make good progress but you've got more faith in their ability to hit deadlines than I do.

If I win, my R10k will be worth nothing at all...

Your problem, not mine. :D

It's easy to bash Eskom from your keyboard, but as I say, I'm willing to place R10k on Medupi being fully operational within 5 years, and probably even more capacity from other new and existing plants than what we expected.

This is all fishy as hell! Just the other day Medupi is operating at optimum with 1000Mw.Further The Solar output is adding 800Mw.Either Lynne Brown is lying or Eskom is bull****ing!

Can you read??

Browne said government was fast-tracking regulations to enable Eskom to boost its supply by signing contracts with private-sector power producers.

By April 2015 this will add 1000 megawatts (to the grid),” Browne said.

Medupi isn't producing 1000MW.

Medupi is not generating power, the turbine is spinning optimally. The sync to the grid is still coming. That's what Lynne Brown said in her statement. The 1000MW is not from Medupi, it's from private-sector suppliers and will only come onto the grid by April at the earliest.

Eskom is doing what they have been doing each weekend, stopping the diesel stations to refill tanks and conduct maintenance; and stopping the pumped storage stations and diverting power there to fully refill the upper dams which they can't do during the weekday low demand periods.
