Stage 2 load shedding this weekend

Seems like a sound strategy. Better than the "run flat out Monday and then it breaks Tuesday evening" they had in the past.

Medupi is not generating power, the turbine is spinning optimally. The sync to the grid is still coming. That's what Lynne Brown said in her statement. The 1000MW is not from Medupi, it's from private-sector suppliers and will only come onto the grid by April at the earliest.

Eskom is doing what they have been doing each weekend, stopping the diesel stations to refill tanks and conduct maintenance; and stopping the pumped storage stations and diverting power there to fully refill the upper dams which they can't do during the weekday low demand periods.

I find it fascinating that no one can understand this! :wtf:

Seems idiots here are worse than the ANC themselves.

Yay. Can finally put my kit to test. Felt a bit defeated after setting it all up then no more load shedding.

Except tomorrow we are only scheduled for 22H30 to midnight.

At least the Eskom press release says nothing about replenishing water supply in pump storage reservoirs during the daytime (suggested by some posts on this forum), which would be completely illogical!

BTW: The City of Cape Town load-shedding website is offline until 23 Feb for essential maintenance to the power supply (ironic!). See:

Edit: There is also a direct link to the CCT schedules (PDF version). See: http://www.capetown.gov.za/loadshedding/LSmaps/EG2014_02_AllAreas-s.pdf

It's easy to bash Eskom from your keyboard, but as I say, I'm willing to place R10k on Medupi being fully operational within 5 years, and probably even more capacity from other new and existing plants than what we expected.
Bashing? That was the optimistic version. You realise Majuba took 18 years to construct?

Majuba wasnt built under the power constraints were facing now. I stick to my word. Cash on the table

Medupi is being built under the power constraints we're facing and its already 4 years overdue...

You think the constraints will help? Check the link I posted. Insider reckons 2nd unit will take 2.5 years instead of 0.5 thanks to gov interference.

As for bet...trying to get rid of ZAR exposure not increase it. Don't bet for money anyway...

Ah snap wrong quote. Should have been genetic. On mobile - do forgive

Oh well...mine is 08:00 then at least over for the day.

Jip, there it goes...

**** you Eskom.

Next weekend is going to be a mess if stage 2 - no power for 4,5 hours between 18:00 - 22:30. Really a joke - I would hate to be in the restaurant business (yes, I get that almost everyone runs on gas, but I doubt that people are willing to go out if they have no lights at home).

Hmm. Those poor guys running their main infrastructure. This is the most brutal balancing act ever.
Stop the system from degrading, while trying to factor in further faults, and government orders to keep the power on.
Somewhere in SA a Eskom analyst is at this moment sitting in the corner of his shower, muttering something about demand destruction.

I thought electricity would go off in my area after 8AM today  Now I don't know when it will go ****off. Uncertainty. Fukcing useless kants.

Port Elizabeth should sell their schedule to the other metros. A lot of the stage 1 slots coincide with one of the stage 2 slots, so a switch back to stage 1 like this either means you're still off for 2 hours at the same time, or you're not off at all. And it rotates nicely and you get days off, even on stage 2. It's one thing our city planners actually got right.

Come on Oom Ben, phone Patricia, Parks, Kgosientso and James and tell them, divide your grid into 8 zones, gimme R300 mil to pay for my water upgrades that Zuma promised to pay and then didn't and you can use my schedules.

For the second week running I will be loadshed for the Stormers game. :(
