Star Citizen

I still maintain this will become known as the greatest ever scam - that cannot be shown to be a scam.
That's the danger of this sort of crowd funding, keep developers in work for years with zero accountability and no shareholders baying for a product release..

Exactly. It's over $300 million now? And no-one will be accountable when it is announced that tech has made this (supposed) game redundant.

There's so much a person can do with R30K. Go on an insane holiday, get epic PC gear, get lots of hookers (I guess). Yet he decided to hit up Star Citizen. Humans, we do things.

Just so everyone knows, you don't drop it all in one load. I mean some people could probably, but most people upgrade their ships over time. And yeah, if you can't pace yourself, or fall for the marketing, it adds up over time.

Still, they are getting more funding, they are getting more people on. But most of the new people haven't been there from the beginning and aren't really in it for the "dream" but for the actual chance to play the game. So it is a double edged sword and they need to watch it. Also they need to pull their fingers out of their arses.

The new studio is a good sign, but with CIG there is always a p**sklap hidden between the daisies in the bouquet. But it's a wait and see game.

What I can tell you is for all the money I've sunk into my Steam account, only a couple of games have pulled the "worth wagon", similarly with SC, it sucks sometimes, but there are moments in the game with or without your mates that really stick with a person. And the community on a whole is incredibly supportive and helpful.

Crowd sourced:

Quoted at this time,

FUNDS RAISED

333,712,900

STAR CITIZENS

2,905,422

I don't, however, believe that the above is updated in real-time, and it haven't been updated in some time. Hanger sales are extremely lucrative, and I am sure they had a Black Friday hanger sale.

Total sourcing, including existing investments, was valued $550 million in March. The sourcing at this time should be plus $600 million.

What is CIG worth and do they have other assets and investments? All I know is, CIG is worth a lot.

When you listen to the talk on servers, these guys are all just fkn loaded with cash. I mean they just sit around talking about when CIG will allow them to pay CIG more money for the next concept ship. Which is often in the $400-$1500 range.

It is no wonder they make money hand over fist each sale. Some people thirsty AF for SC content. Even if its literally just a jpg and a few lines of description.

I joined a organisation (Clan) and the main guy has literally every ship currently available to purchase, including a few duplicates. All purchased with cash. Nothing in game.

Why TF would you play the game then once it releases if you literally own every ship in the game at launch?

Personally don't get it.

Star Citizen Reports Record Income For 2020

60% Above 2019's High

2020 has, it seems, been a successful year for MMO space sim Star Citizen. The game enjoyed its most successful year on record (by revenue), beating last year's historic financial high point by over 60%. All in all, Roberts estimates Star Citizen will close at over $80 million in sales in 2020. To date, the game has raised around $338.5 million in crowdfunding.

Big money :whistling:

What is the Squadron 42 release date?

In the letter, Roberts says it is too early to discuss a Squadron 42 release date. If you don't recall, Squadron 42 is a single-player title set in the Star Citizen universe and was what began this whole crazy adventure with Roberts seeking crowdfunding to make a Wing Commander spiritual successor. Roberts says that much of Star Citizen's core gameplay - especially flight and on-foot combat - "will be the same between both games". Despite this, Roberts is promising "a more crafted feel", combined with famous actors playing key story roles and more bespoke locations and assets.

Too early to discuss... It wasn't too early when they still had roadmap.

Anyway, Roberts' letter is here, lengthy read, but to quote his statement on SQ42

Squadron 42

The new Roadmap is not meant to give people an early estimate on when Squadron 42 will be completed. We made a conscious decision to only show the Squadron 42 work concurrently with the Star Citizen work over the Roadmap’s four-quarter window. This is because it is too early to discuss release or finish dates on Squadron 42.

As I said earlier this year, Squadron 42 will be done when it is done, and will not be released just to make a date, but instead only when all the technology and content is finished, the game is polished, and it plays great. I am not willing to compromise the development of a game I believe in with all my heart and soul, and I feel it would be a huge disservice to all the team members that have poured so much love and hard work into Squadron 42 if we rushed it out or cut corners to put it in the hands of everyone who is clamoring for it. Over the past few years, I’ve seen more than a few eagerly awaited titles release before they were bug free and fully polished. This holiday season is no exception. This is just another reminder to me of why I am so lucky to have such a supportive community, as well as a development model that is funded by people that care about the best game possible, and not about making their quarterly numbers or the big holiday shopping season.

For most games it is typical to not even announce the project until about 12 months out and only start building awareness with marketing 6 months before launch. The issues with showing gameplay, locations or assets on a narratively driven game this early are twofold. First, a marketing campaign can only last so long and second, there is only so much of the gameplay that we can show before release as we want you to experience a really engrossing story. If we show the non-spoiler gameplay now, that’s prime footage and gameplay that could have been used closer to release. It is better to treat Squadron 42 like a beautifully wrapped present under the tree that you are excited to open on Christmas Day, not knowing exactly what is inside, other than that it’s going to be great.

Because of this I have decided that it is best to not show Squadron 42 gameplay publicly, nor discuss any release date until we are closer to the home stretch and have high confidence in the remaining time needed to finish the game to the quality we want.

The planned Squadron 42 specific update show, the Briefing Room is not dead; it will just go on hiatus until we are closer to release and it comes back as a part of an overall plan to build excitement as we show all the amazing features and details players will experience in Squadron 42. This does not mean we will stop communicating our progress on Squadron 42. We will continue with our monthly reports for Squadron 42, and we will also share our current development progress in our New Roadmap.

I will say that the Squadron 42 team has really stepped up this year; It’s been a pleasure seeing how responsive and agile everyone has been, and just how much the team cares about making things great, despite the challenges of working remotely. All of us, including myself, are in close-out mode and I can’t wait for you all to experience the sprawling sci-fi epic that Squadron 42 is.

In the meantime, Star Citizen is the best visibility into the gameplay and technical progress we make; you can download a new update every three months with new features and content, as well as advances in tech. We have weekly video shows that go behind the scenes in the creation of these features and content, and we welcome feedback and player input in how to improve things. A lot of the core gameplay of Star Citizen, especially the flight and on-foot combat, will be the same between both games. Squadron 42 will have a much higher level of bespoke locations and assets and a more crafted feel; combined with a cinematic quality and characters played by famous actors delivering performances that take you on a rollercoaster narrative experience that will rival the biggest sci-fi event films.

My hope is that you’ll be so engaged in Star Citizen that Squadron 42 will be here before you know it.

Squadron 2042

I actually played osiris new dawn (experimental branch) today; after dropping the ball with 'osiris new dawn' they have picked up the pace again on the 'experimental branch'. Still EA, still rough around the edges but better than it used to be when they dropped the ball. However, there's still a lot of work to do. At least it is moving forward again and feels more so than valnir rok. Not sure how it is going with Outpost Zero though...

Well, like I always say, let people do with their money what they want to do with their money. They have their reasons. Me, I'd not go further than what the average runs to, but that is my opinion.

The game is not complete, there are some good signs and some bad practices. Ship sales obviously work for them, so they drive it. And the community laps it up. But there have been more "movement" recently in the game with certain stuff coming on line, as per usual covered in bugs, but still. Items / functionality promised for years are now popping up. Yeah they stuff the roadmap with coming features and then gut it, that's how they do.

I'd honestly say, if you are okay with spending the $100 odd average amount, then you do you. Or take your aurora, and grind like a mofo. Or befriend a whale, or a pod of them, and let their mass pull you along in their wake, you'll have an easier time grinding.

Or don't.

Whatevs. You do you.

Noticed a lot of Elite players moving to Star Citizen because of the debacle with the Odyssey update. Seems a bit premature considering SC doesn't really have its gameplay loops fleshed out yet. Guess they must be really pissed with Elite
