Star Trek Beyond

I agree the new movies suck ... give me good old Jean Luc Picard narrating his logs any day of the year, or even Captain Janeway. I grew up watching those series on good ol' SABC.

Rubbish

New movies invigorated the franchise and provided perfect cinematic escapism combined with a good story, action and effects, for a new audience.

If they wanted Picard, they could've had him at a fraction of the appeal that no one would bother watching.

Bring on the new Star Trek.

I quite agree, these one is not for the nerdy trekkies. They should make a rebooted tv series for the nerds and action movies based in the same universe for the rest of us.

They have sacrificed a lot of the core Trek values for a good action movie.

Star Trek movies are very Hit an miss affair and the first of the reboot movies I thought was OK, it had a Balance of action as well as making and Old Trekkie happyish - Into Darkness i thought was A good action movie, if it wasn't Star Trek i would have enjoyed it, but they really messed up.

I liked some of the new actors interpretations Karl Urban for one has Bones Sorted.

Core Trek values you mean hammy acting, laughable storylines and unconvincing special effects?

The fact you liked some of the rebooted stuff shows a willingness to abandon old and obsolete ideas and embrace fresh ones more in line with the 21st century.

Why do you still Klingon to depleted, tired and tested formulae when the new one opens up so many doors and opportunities?

No we mean the social commentary and introspection. The Original series dealt with things like communism and racism, and the later ones things like sexism too. The first inter-racial kiss ever on US tv was on the original Star Trek. Star Trek used to ask the difficult questions.

You used to have to switch your brain to enjoy Star Trek. Now to get the same enjoyment you have to switch your brain off.

The first reboot movie got a lot right in terms of A Trek Movie - it was shaping up to be a good series Please old fans and get a few new ones.
ANd then they made the Abysmal Into Darkness - Even the original and Next gen movies Like i said were a Hit and Miss Even Fans Only Expected the Even Numbered movies to be good (and then Nemesis came and ruined that)

Nicholas Meyer directed Arguably the Best Trek Movies - the first thing he did was Ban Gene Roddenberry from his set.
You dont have to be A Trekkie to make a Good Trek movie, just get the Core story right.

Star Trek is niche and like the sci if channel no one apart from hard core fans would want to watch it. Maybe the should make some modern direct to TV movies for the fans.

If so "Niche" Sci fi why bother making any movies?
The universe is still a rich source of material and is being used to make action movies without the bits that will bore non hardcore fans with things like "may the force may you prosper" :D

I think we're all looking forward to the CBS show coming soon.

This second trailer looks much better than the first..

It makes it look a bit more interesting... will be intriguing to see the initial reviews.

As for the new CBS show, I am eager to see more info....
