Starcraft 2 INSANE pricing???

Here comes MORAL OREL! Everyone grab a pedistal quick!

Errr...Excuse me.....are you High ?
Console fanbois trying to spread their game price misery with pc gamers....just pathetic Really.
You console losers pay a premium for games that work straight out the box on hardware that you don't need to upgrade, so stop whining about it and DEAL WITH IT!
I actually don't know whether to laugh at you or get angry...

Just for the record, i have both a PC and a console, i went the console route, as i couldn't warrant the constant upgrading to meet the games coming out. I'm by no means a "fanbois" as you so elegantly put it, but just another consumer that gets tired of the growing price differences for similar products. If it will make you feel better, the principle applies, that either console users pay too much or pc users pay too little. Use the logic on whichever side of the fence you sit?

Regardless of what you've read in the 'tabloids' or receiving that reliable news from your neighbours cuzzies little brother, it's been stated in many interviews that the first compaign will be longer than the entire Starcraft 1.

So in other words, we are getting the LOTR trilogy equivalent.

Starcraft 1 had 30 mission, split into 10 missions per race.

Starcraft 2 "EP 1" will also have 30 missions with split paths for 1 race. We dont know the final numbers for the other races, but it will be roughly the same.

And missions won't be as linear either:

Srsly, I have no idea what you are crying about.

You and me both.

They are the same company now.;)

Ugh....... that is disturbing.

Yeah I don't really care either, but at that price, I wouldn't ever consider it.

Price has dropped allready, still a bit steep tho at R440. Not that it matters to me since I'll be getting it anyway.

I'd expect those prices for Battlechests but not the price of just one installment of the game. I enjoyed starcraft but not so much that I'm willing to throw that much money away.

Yes one installment...... one installment that just as long AS THE ENTIRE FIRST STARCRAFT!!!!!!!

Look, I could understand all this bitching and moaning if they released all three games in a month and charged R500 each. R1500 in one month would be wrong, but they're not. We'll be lucky if we get one game a year. R440...... per year. R90 more then normal prices...... R270 over probably three years..........

Yes, let's all get our pitchforks and burning torches out.

PS:

Also, you guys do know how lucky we are with our PC prices right?

If you were to buy Bad Company 2 in Canada it would work out to R400 and God forbid you live in Australia..... R540. We're paying R309. Do you guys honestly think this'll last forever?

Sounds cool, but might turn out a bit disjointed unless they pull it off properly. What are the effects of this on the MP? Will each episode act as an expansion pack for units/abilities, making it unplable without them?

Seems like this is an extreme of the DLC epidemic sweeping through development, where finished games are divided to grab a little extra cash where they can (Still pissed at bioware for the "would you like to download" quests).

Don't forget that the cost of living is higher in those countries, so salaries etc. reflect this. Putting our exchange rate to foreign purchases doesn't always work. Its most likely expensive for them at a similar basis to SA. Either way it doesn't matter, as theses things become more popular the prices will go up and the early supporters will lose out.

Perhaps, but that doesn't explain why our console game prices are on average R100 more expensive than the Americans. Why is our PC games less expensive but our console games more expensive?

We're pretty limited with who imports console titles (ps3 is only brought in by Ster Kinekor) and they can pretty much demand what they want. Until we start getting a better ditribution market (which will most likely not happen given that SK can pay Sony some decent royalties) we're stuck with it.

Maybe because you can pirate pc games

Blizzard have stated that all the MP functionality will be released with any of the 3. You can skip #1 and buy #2 and still have the same MP experience. That's what I've read in many reports, whether they might decide to change in the future, is yet to be seen.
The game was 1x full complete game, but then, outta no where, Blizzard decided, let's split the game, the excuse was "we'll be able to POLISH the game more" which if you really think about it means, well, we'll release 1 campaign, at the price of a full game, then, wait, let you all buy it, then release the 2nd game.
What part of 30 missions in Starcraft 1 vs 90 missions (with different paths) for Starcraft 2, don't you understand? I'm stupid? Seems you're the one that failed maths.

They have also stated many times that the missions will also be far more complex than Starcraft 1. They wanted to create an epic storyline and giving us 90 missions worth of gametime. They didn't take a 30 mission game and split it into 10 missions per game.

It seems you are just pulling 'facts' from sensationalist articles. Do yourself a favour and Google Starcraft 2 interviews, go read those. Then make up your own mind if you want to buy Starcraft 2 or not.

No........ if that were the case PC games in America would be cheaper than PC games in South Africa..... which it isn't...... which is why I'm confused. They have more expensive PC games but less expensive console games.

But we'll still complain about our PC game prices...... go figure.

Well to me Blizzard is part of my religion, so I guess I'd even pay R1k for the first episode considering how much I normally spend on a night out with friends what a movie ticket cost nowadays. If you'd to calculate a Rand per hour of entertainment I guess SC1 + expansion must be one of the cheapest games I've every bought.

And I also don't think developing quality software let alone all the artwork and depth that goes into Blizzard's games come cheap. Compared to MS Office or Win7 R500 odd is nothing.

But then again, shareholders or usually more greedy than the developers, so Activision's involvement surely must have put a greater money spin to it.

Does anyone know if you'd have to pay a monthly fee to play multiplayer on Battle.net? Like WOW?

Cant wait for this game, busy playing the BETA,and its insane :D

worth every cent it will cost...I'm a bit more worried about the 2grand im spending on a Card just to play it on max settings haha, now i remember why I changed over to consoles in the first place:p

Wrong. From The Starcraft 2 FAQ:

How will the expansion sets impact multiplayer gameplay?

The expansion sets will add new content to each race for use in multiplayer matches. This could include additions such as new units, abilities, and structures, along with new maps and Battle.net updates.

Have fun paying R1000+ for the full Multiplayer experience while Acti-Blizz is laughing at how they butrape you.

Just like they butraped everyone with Warcraft 2 and Tides of Darkness or Starcraft and Broodwars? Diablo 2 and LoD or Warcraft 3 and The frozen Throne? or WoW with TBC and WotLK. Ye... my ass is sore from sitting many hours at my desk playing all these awesome games.

Anyways, I'm very sure that when they announced the trilogy that MP would remain the same; now it seems they are releasing Starcraft 2 with 2x expansions. So I stand corrected.

Though, R430 + R250 x2 over the time span of 3+ years with rough minimum of 60 hours SP game time (R15.5 per hour) excluding MP. Damn, just realised what a cheapskate you are, but then you probably going to pirate it anyways.

Lol. Love how you insult me when I told you that you are wrong. Instead of just admitting you are wrong, you resort to being a douche bag.

Well done.

Console games cheaper than pc games in the US??

Don't think so. If you compare pricing on major US gaming etailers like gamestop you will xbox 360/ps3 games sell for $59.99 at launches while the pc title sell for $49.99.

im not going to buy a game with DRM that can cause problems with yer pc
