Starcraft 2 INSANE pricing???

Let me be clear on this; if the normal game (non collectors edition) is more than R300 - I won't buy it.
If the collectors edition is more than R500 - I won't buy it either.

I'll wait, and wait and wait and I promise I'll find it for cheaper - they are milking it and people (such as yourself and myself) buy it because we want it so bad, they just sit and smile.

Look at COD:MW2 - the game is making millions and what happens, they don't get any royalities, staff speak up and they get fired.

WTF??!!!!! are they nuts! no lan and we have to pay how much? &*9^*^&% Blizzard *sigh*

Why is this Blizzard's fault?

They haven't officially announced prices yet? Rather blame the shops for trying to make a buck of pre-release sales ...

Grow a brain pls.

It's about time PC pricing met console pricing.

WTF?

A great deal of the R700 you pay for a xbox/ps3 game goes to MS/Sony as a royalty fee. How will you justify a high PC game price? The most I have spent on a pc game is MW2 @ R500 what a waste. So stoked that EA/Dice are not ripping us off with BC2, there is still hope.

Yep, will wait for bargin bin.

Thing is, they push the limits, they make a game price X and see who pays it, then the next game they make the price Y and see who pays what.

One company will do it for other companies too.

Like, COD:MW2 - they charged R500 and people went mad and bought it.
Now I bet Blizzard noticed this and will charge say, R600 and see what happens... if nothing, they'll just drop the price / offer specials on web sites etc.

It's that start that will screw us all, they release the game and all you nana's go and buy it (specifically referring to those who earn way more than the rest of us who don't think R600+- is alot)

You're not very clever eh!

Places like Megarom don't exactly make lots of money on games, R100 max!
I remember buying from EA (directly) - they charged R220 for BF2142, shops sold it for R299 - same sorta trend for most games.

The price HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED. The game shops are putting a rough estimate on their websites.

Looks like BTGames is charging 600R+ for the normal edition, 900R+ for the collectors.

I'm not overly concerned just yet as its still early days and the publishers wouldn't have announced the prices just yet and BTGames would've put higher prices then they think it will be for the people pre-ordering and pre-paying. They'll update the price as they get more info. That said they usually get some indication of the prices from the local distributer so who knows.. if this is a start of a new trend with pc game pricing..

I checked this morning, and looks like the prices has changed on BT Games website
It's now
Starcraft II : Wings of Liberty : R475.00
Starcraft II : Wings of Liberty Collectors : R695.00
That's their pre-order prices

Why?
That is one thing that pc gained over the consoles was the price.
I think three times before i buy a console game if I can get it on pc I will rather go for that cause of the price.

Well for one it's the same game. Is there any real reason the same game must be cheaper on another format? I just don't think its fair that PC game prices are cheaper than Console game prices, add to that, when PC games reach "platinum" sales, they drop to a fraction of the original price. Console games rarely drop that much, only if it's a crappy title. Please, don't get me wrong, i'm not aiming anything at PC users, it's just a little unfair, don't you think?

If pc games go up to the same price as console games - it would probably result in less pc games purchased and more piracy. Console games are still relatively easy to pirate but cracked pc games are easily available that at a certain pricing point even your most honest okes will consider piracy. I have a fairly decent job and really I'd battle to buy pc games at even 500R a go on a regular basis.

Throw in the additional costs of upgrading your pc and keeping it modern enough to play decent games and you might as well get it over and done with and buy a console, you'll save a fortune.

You do have to agree though that more console exclusives and the promise of trouble free installs, runs first time everytime, is guaranteed to run and all of that are part of the package for consoles? I suspect this is why they can overcharge for the games while with PC gaming you have to make sure that your machine meets the requirements - even then it's more prone to having problems. Plus of course the extra fees publishers/devs pay to the console manufacturers must also influence the cost of console games.

Also I'd rather they dropped the price of console games rather than adjusting the PC game prices to match those of console games. I buy games for a console and PC (only because of the exclusives - if I had a choice it would be PC all the way).
