Collectors edition arrived yesterday. Haven't played yet though.

I wouldnt want the digital download version even if it was R150. You just miss out on too much stuff.

Haha. I've had friends like you. But I've converted them and now they buy most of their stuff off of Steam.

Back on topic: I won't be getting Starcraft II. I've never been an RTS fan. And it just takes too much time to become a decent RTS gamer.

Pc games are getting expensive. makes console game look cheap

R400 for the standard edition. R600 for the collectors (best/most cram packed collectors released this decade), which is cheaper than any day 0 console game. I think your getting a bit ahead of yourself there.

Most I know are just getting it for the single player.

There is no option for: "Had to wait for payday before I could get my copy" :(

The 27th is after most people's pay day.

The standard more like R460 online and about R530 in store, and the CE was more like R750 +- not R600

Ah no, its R500 for standard and close to R800 for collectors. Heck, retail price in the shops is R530.

Holy moly!! PC games are getting expensive! The asking price is PS3 territory.

Nice thing about PS3 is that any PS3 game you buy will run perfectly on your console and in perfect hi-def format. Believe it or not, I'm still playing GTA4.

However, I love Blizzard games and will most probably get Starcraft 2. :)

I don't play RTS games because I suck at them and they're just not my style. However, I've gotten a look at the absolutely awesome swag that comes in the CE and even I'm impressed.

You've been waiting so long for this game that you should have had plenty of time to save up for it. The release date wasn't exactly a secret.
SC1 and Broodwars have been played continuously for near 10years+, so I don't see how paying +- R500 for this game isn't worth it.
Sure there's no LAN (which sucks, because it makes it less likely that you'll play the game for the next 10 years if you have to be attached to the interwebs to jol with your friends) but I reckon
that if you really love SC, getting the game the minute it comes out is your choice. If it's not that important to you, then there shouldn't be any issue to waiting until you have the money or the
game gets cheaper. It's your prerogative. Get the game when you want to, or don't get it at all if you don't want to.

The CE's are also limited, so if you wanted one then waiting for later and hoping there will be any left is at your own risk. This is the first CE (and I own several for other games) that I've seen
that I genuinly believe is worth every cent. A dogtag flashdrive?? Awesomesauce.

For the record - don't base the new average price for PC games on the price of SC2. Just because SC2 is +-R500 doesn't mean that all PC games these days cost that much. There are plenty
that still retail for around R300-R350 at release. Console games are still waaaaay more expensive.

Yeah Modern Warefare seems to have started a trend with the over pricing of PC games.

FEAR 2 came out @ R480 last year :o

Microsoft Flight Simulator used to go for around R500 years ago.

whining about price

i must say i was un-impressed with the level of whinging about the price. most teenagers i know own a single item of clothing or a shoe worth more than that! anyway, buy the game and if you can't afford it - get a better job (or stop playing games and get educated!)

i bought the game, 3 of them actually, my wife and house-guest. i didn't bat an eyelid at the price, because i know that as long as i've known blizzard, they have never delivered a game that wasn't an instant hit. the original SC is still one of my favourites of all time, and diablo, and diablo2 were played to death, repeatedly! i didn't really get into warcraft 3 the same way i did with sc/bw, but that was related to poor pc / connectivity at the time. i am still a confirmed world of warcraft addict.

so last night, the 3 of us installed sc2 and started playing. i can't get enough. the single player is engaging, smart, well thought out. interface improvements are good, logical, and show that players' opinions were incorporated into the design (a standard operating procedure for blizzard).

i found the graphics excellent, and the sound exceptional. the gameplay was a bit slow to start off with, and i would probably have whinged, but my wife, who never played SC1 picked it up quickly and it became obvious that its set that way. by the 3rd or 4th mission, it was back to its good old self.

i'm loving it - its engaging, interesting, exciting and all the new units make a lot of sense. i especially like the tech tree - and the mission by mission system is very similar to the dawn of war 2 setup. this is great for me, because i don't always have 6-10 hours at a time to game!

i had a quick 2v2 multiplayer against the PC AI. also fantastic. gave me the same sense of adrenalin rush that a good old fashioned zerg rush used to. its so similar to sc1, yet, it has enough of a difference to feel like a new game. its strange - its new but at the same time so familiar.

bottom line? i love it. i think its fantastic. i would happily have paid double for it because i know its going to bring me many hours of entertainment, joy, and pain when i get online for multiplayer :)

only complaint i have?? HURRY UP WITH DIABLO3 ALREADY!

my name is ZERG.

bla bla bla

+1 :D

Have the exact same experience though - campaign starts a bit slow but as soon as you hit mission 4 or 5 its spot on. Really struggled to pull myself away from the PC and go to work!

Reason why I got a PS3 instead of a PC upgrade last week.

No. I won't be getting a copy of StarCraft 2

I'll get it in a couple or few months time, or maybe only when the price comes down. Just too busy for the next couple of months and have too many games that I have bought and not played yet.

The game sounds awesome though and I would love to relive the memories of Starcraft(1) :)
