State sitting on R1bn telecoms fund

The least that should be done immediately with that money is to make it available as a public participation project.

We need some 11 year old kid still in school to make a business proposal for that money that actually makes sense and cannot be shot down by government nor existing "competing" businesses.

We need somebody who is not looking at a perk to provide complete and clear cut honest strategy.

Sadly, I am not really amazed at the complete lack of enthusiasm in business AND government circles to do something with this money.
 
Honestly - they should redirect the money to the doctors and health-care. Between bandwidth and antibiotics, antibiotics wins hands-down. As much as I would like to complain about telecommunications, the fact that more people have access to cell phones than to the most basic health care is a bit scary.

When last did you use google to lookup something you did not know?

Education is FAR more important than health-care, besides, throwing a single billion into that cesspool of mismanagement and blatant ineptness is not even going to be noticed.

hello mashile, with any market study you need a sample group, start a website and ask ur questions, post that link here and we will gladly help you proof telkom is a monopoly.

As with the 1 billion, I'd put up wifi links all over the country, cheap and easy to do, you can even power these towers with solar. then let the rural areas use voip for voice and wireless data for all their internet. I'm sure telkom will want to kill me for this.

Isn't that enough money for an entire service provider company...
With it's own fibre cable from Dark Africa from DBN to JHB...
Call centre and enough money to by segment of the Seacom cable all for itself for nearly a year...

I was wondering for a moment if the MyBB NPO ISP shouldn't take a shot at getting some of that cash for start costs... Thinking out loud...

He says Icasa/government should be the one driving down interconnect rates,why didn't he just do that himself since he is/was Vodacoms CEO.

I am really getting annoyed with his recent comments.. when you consider who he was etc
 
How about some Fibre............

How about each Telecom Operator setting up their own masts in Rural areas and they apply to a company ( Set up by the USF ) to have Fibre optic Connection to the Nearest National Grid Connection point done with money from USF.

What this means is that Fibre from the Tower to the National Grid will be born by cost from the USF.

Makes Financial Cents ..........................
