Station Strangler set for release

In just 10 days, the notorious Station Strangler, Norman “Afzal” Simons, is set to be released in Cape Town after spending nearly three decades behind bars.

The “Daily Voice” exclusively revealed that meetings were called with Mitchells Plain cops and several community organisations by the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) last week to discuss the details of his release.

Last year, SA Human Rights Commissioner Chris Nissen called for Simons to be released, saying he had done his time.

SAHRC’s Chris Nissen says Simons has paid for his crime
.

Nissen told the “Weekend Argus”: “I was present when the bodies were discovered, I took the late former president Nelson Mandela to the house of the Samaai family. I am of the opinion that the law has already taken its course.

(Simons) has paid for his mistakes, whether he did one or others, leave it in God’s hands. We do not condone any rape or murder but we must not be hypocrites, let us be consistent,” he said.
DCS spokesperson Candice van Reenen said the department will not be commenting on Simons’ release.
“We are interacting with the victims and community and will therefore not make any comment on the matter at this stage,” she added.
What on earth?

To me who grew up in Mitchells Plain, hell we even played in those fields where the bodies were found, the community was in fear, the area was tense. I will never forget how random men were chased and attacked simply because they were strangers in our area.

It seems they could only pin one body on him, but wasn’t there always this lurking suspicion that he had an accomplice?

I recall their was a witness who vividly described the SS to have a scar though this guy who went down for the one body never fit the description as witnessed by the survivor?

Could be, the problem is that generally serial killers only stop because of 4 reasons, they get caught; they get sick/physically frail; they die and they go to jail for an unrelated crime. They dont stop killing which is why they normally serve life in prison when caught.

The killing stopped after he got caught.

Simons raped and sodomised his victims before strangling them. Victims were found face down with their hands tied behind their backs, buried in shallow sandy graves. In some cases the victims were found with their underwear around their necks, presumably used as a garrote. Hand-written notes were also found next to some victims.[4] Simons' relationship with his older stepbrother seems to have a major bearing on his criminal activities. Simons alleges that his older stepbrother raped and sodomised him as a child. He also reports 'hearing voices' from his brother instructing him to kill. Simons' brother, an alcoholic, was murdered in 1991.

You can’t say this with absolute certainty. There were many missing children in the SA even after this saga. Even today many children just vanish every year.
