Whooo hoooo! He will be happy to see the increased population in the streets since his detention. Seems government still do not understand....

My father knows this story quite well. My grandmother taught with Simons at Alpine primary when he was arrested

Unfortunately my grandmother passed on in 99 so wouldn't really be able to get a first hand account of the shock and horror and relief I guess the community felt

You were more scared of the hiding your mom was gonna give you for coming home late than the station strangler or it catching you.

Wonder how he feels about the state of the stations today. Like going to your favorite hot spot only to see its closed down or in ruin. Can't imagine how he'd be able to integrate back into society anyway. Prob just another R350 grant recipient!

(Simons) has paid for his mistakes, whether he did one or others, leave it in God’s hands. We do not condone any rape or murder but we must not be hypocrites, let us be consistent,” he said.
Rape and murder are just mistakes according to the South African human rights commission.... Slipping on a banana is a mistake. Forcing your banana into someone else isn't.

The main purpose of prison isn't for retribution or even justice. The purpose of prison is to keep monsters like this away from society.

Then again it isn't difficult to see why this guy is big on forgiveness:
Police did a breathalyser test. Police spokesperson FC Van Wyk confirmed the arrest.
“A drunk and driving case was opened against a 56-year-old male for investigation. He was arrested and released on warning to appear in court on 22 October 2015,” he said.
Police had to take Nissen back to the roadblock after his arrest because they couldn’t move his Porsche Cayenne. They needed his fingerprint to start-up the posh car before they could impound it.
Nissen was a church minister and anti-apartheid activist in the late 1970s.
He later went into business, serving on the board of several property and investment companies, as well as at Standard Bank and Woolworths.
In 2012, he returned to church work and became a Presbyterian minister to a church of 300 people in Khayelitsha.

Can our government garuntee that a known serial killer will not sodomise and kill young boys once released.

In other countries, this person would have been locked away for good.

If he had a conscience I would agree, he would then suffer and live in regret until he eventually dies. But he has no remorse he would be better off dead, now he is being put back into society.
Again:
