Order it from eBay or one of the international parts websites, will probably still come in under half that incl shipping and duties.

As i have said previously, dealerships are in the business of selling cars, repairing them is just an unwelcome obligation they have, so the price they give for repairs is meant to chase you away, that's why they opted for a new engine instead of fixing the car, which is very much fixable.

The inflated cost of the new engine will either chase the customer away, but in the unlikely situation where the customer accept, they know they won't fail with a new engine plus they make a very decent profit out of it.

He is either a bad driver, or just a drama queen. It's valid to say I prefer AWD, but the below statement is a bit much. He didn't even notice it was rwd for 2 years, what a moron.
"I sold my Jaguar E-Pace P300 AWD and I insisted on another AWD model for the safety of me and my family. Now we have to run a gauntlet every time it rains. How much do you put on the lives of me and my family, that has not even been considered," he said.

This is also BS, the mistake is never in the clients favour.
The dealership admitted the error; however, it maintained that it was unintentional. It said the error stemmed from incorrect data across multiple systems, including third-party platforms and historical records. It argued that all documentation at the time of sale — including listings, finance applications, and registration records — consistently described the vehicle as AWD.

True, If the mistake was unintentional they could have resolved it without the drama.

Honestly its his own stupidity for not doing his due diligence. Moron indeed.

Also unreasonable to ask for a full refund after two years of use. Probably realized he bought a car with crap resale or cant keep up with payments and using this as a way out

I have no issue with him being reimbursed or compensated in some way for being sold the 'wrong' car but this is just laughable nonsense...

It’s so bad... it only took him two whole years to realise that.
He needs to take the money and sht up.
 
I’m sure he tried to resolve it with the dealership and just got the middle finger and went ape **** legal on them. Quite common with dealers, they could care less especially since the sale was so long ago.
 
I need front shocks for a Tiguan with 315k km. Goldwagen has Monroe for less than R1000 and Bilstein more than R1000. Is it worth the extra?

I would go Bilstein,

Funny you mention this, i need to do them for my Lexus GS. Cannot find any aftermarket shocks anywhere. The only ones available are from the dealer. 24k for all 4 shocks and mountings (excludes labour btw).

So that Bilstein isn't bad

Bilstein all day every day.

I tried to get Bilsteins for my Amarok, but they were just ever so slightly more expensive than I could justify spending.
 
Our vehicle was booked at Mercedes for one of those holiday safety checks. For some reason they did not pick up it was still on MB Motorplan. They called me and said both front and rear brakes are finished and it needs urgent change at a cost of R10k. No problem, I said, as it’s on Motorplan so change whatever is needed. Later in the day they call and said MB only covers the brakes when the light comes on at 5% life so I can drive for another 5000km. I then asked how come it was urgent earlier and now I can wait more than 5000km. They said they will check with the technician and revert, needless to say they never got back to me.
 
I still think one of the major reason for high car prices is these service and maintenance plans.
Years ago when service and maintenance plans was an optional extra at VW I worked out that it is cheaper to just pay for services yourself.
Also I feel with all the corruption in this world they probably going to BS me somewhere with actually servicing the car properly as seen in above example.

Yep. The number of times the stealership has told me the wiper blades and brake pads need replacement only for me to check myself and they are barely half worn down. Most people don't check.

I'm not car savvy, but even I can replace a pair of wiper blades. I don't know how to check brake pads though, and replacing those is way beyond me.
