Stealerships

I was quoted R167000 to extend my Mercedes Maintenance by 2 years. 7k was for service and 160k was for peace of mind. I took it privately, spent about 3k on the one service and 12k for the next (including double battery replacement, wipers etc. I did a big service now that cost me 18k, but it was fixing a lot of wear and tear items, including brake pads and discs front and rear and a few other items.
It seems we are using same mechanic.
At 150000km asked them to check everything, fix what is an issue and replace bits as preventative measure.
Ended up being over R20k but at least we know all is done and most importantly no debit order for new car.

Send your wife to buy wiper blades at Midas. Afterwards she asks them to fit. Job done.

Buy the brakes at Midas. Have them fitted at Supaquick. Always cheaper. For me anyways.
For my wife's Balade the dealership quoted R4300 to do brake pads. I got some from Midas for R600 and replaced myself in 20 min. For my Honda Amaze midas does not yet have that models brake pads. No non OEM supplier had them yet in SA so I had to buy them from Honda for 2K odd and then also replaced myself in about 20 min however the dealership also wanted over 4K for the same job. Its ridiculous. The Amaze is an Uber approved vehicle so plenty of them on the road. Hoping next time the generic is available from Midas.

Look at how proud the owner is to pay that amount, does anyone have an idea what measument of oil is it that results in needing 40 quantities? Isn't a pint the smallest?
Well most Vw garages have a machine that pumps the exact amount needed for every engine. So it is probably in 100ml units.

The Volkswagen Polo 1.0L TSI (AW/Mk6) generally requires approximately 4.0 liters of engine oil

Does anyone know what happened to Black Jesus's car, that video is rather long?
Didn't watch the entire thing but I understand something like this,

VW - Your turbo is ****ed.
BJ - Too expensive, put my old stuff back.
VW - Your car is ready and here's a bill for R54k.
BJ - I told you to take all the new stuff off and what is this R2K for diagnostics? Where is the report?
VW - Mumble, excuse, mumble.....

TLDW - No report available and new turbo still on his car. VW not budging and BJ not happy.

That sounds about right, VW turbo R54k aftermarket high quality branded turbo R13k

Sure, for services, maybe it works out cheaper to not have a service plan. Maintenance plans are another story, I have always viewed them as a kind of insurance, a complete waste of money until you have a claim and they are then worth every cent.

When we bought my wife's up in 2015 we paid R12k odd rand to extend the service plan, and anothe R12k odd to extend the warranty to 6 years 200k km. We got it on 30k km. The service plan paid for every service up to 105k km, at a cost of around R2k. The 120km service ended up costing just over R11k, fully paid again. That thing was worth every cent we paid. The warranty was never used, waste of money.

When I bought my current ranger I also extended the warranty to 6 years/200k km. That thing expired without making a single claim on it. Say I paid a kak load of money for extended warranties and never needed to claim on any of it.

So for my next car I'll just extend the service plan and not the warranty.

Nothing more slippery than a 2hnd car dealer, an answer for everything and taking zero responsibility for anything, swine.
I've been dealing with a similar cnt right now, fked up something very expensive but suddenly they have amnesia when I catch them out and the story has more twists than than the Tugela river.

As dealers they know every trick under the sun and hence would have known about the issues but conveniently "forgot" about it all at time of sale, sadly it’s now the victims word against their word, it’s too expensive to pursue them legally and they know that.
It’s sad that you have to learn all these lessons the hard way, typically multiple times.

Eish, what wrong with the 2er? o_O

Maybe I misread, do you have an issue with your 2-series?
No I don't have a 2 series, it’s an issue with a service provider, not related to cars but the modus operandi when things go wrong is the same.

The customer is being a douchebag in this instance, she refuses to even give the dealer a chance to fix the problem, they can't be handing out full refunds or brand new replacement cars each time a near new car has a fault, they'll be bankrupt in 6 months.
