Looks like a very bad design for that plate to be touching the flywheel.

When he pulled the plate out abit is this not opening up space for dust and road dirt to clog up there must be a reason for that happen surely its not a design issue

I don't even understand because the engine and gearbox are supposed to be sealed together, what do we even have flexible plates touching things they are not supposed to touch?

i own and run an official service centre (for what doesnt matter)we use about 75 %original parts .there is such an influx of generics into SA its scary .substandard manufacturing from china and india is rife .unknown parts that cost less but cost you a return 2 months later when they have failed .pumps that last 300 hours instead of 3000 hours ,causing double downtime and double expenses at the end .parts that break and dont fit .because it looks the same doesnt mean it is .some unbranded generics are ok most are junk ,be carefull what you buy ,it can get very costly in the end .if a reputable brand with backup in SA thats fine but these brands that are slapped in a box and sold eish some are really bad .replacing generic parts with the correct ones is a huge percentage of my work .remember materials may look the same but are they made to the same spec and hardness .but generics make me money ,unfortunately the customer gets billed again .Allways remember if you have a R10 head ,then buy a R10 helmet.

Maybe not but they are made to Honda spec and not some aftermarket suppliers spec.
i hear you .but is it really the same i promise you nope .heres an example ,an aftermarket fuel pump R1250 ,fitted by owner .failed after 1000km ,but it looked the same he said ,original pump R1860 from agents .R5400 for the flatbed to get the vehicle home frim Namibia .2 days stuck on the side of the road R2800 to fit and replace generic pump with an original .what did he save .i see it daily , i dont care its not my problem .see pic thats what happened .[/QUOTE]

generic part R86 .genuine part R245 .R1450 to replace with labour +R5540 to rent a replaceplacement for 8 days .

Just got a call from Mercedes where my car is in for service. He started to mention a whole lot of things which need to be done on the car, He finished of with an airco filter which needs replacing. So I said really? His answer was yes.

Then I told him well seems like I caught you guys out. The airco was just serviced a week ago including an air filter which was replaced. Then he suddenly backtracked and said it was his mistake, a quote for another car was by accident attached to mine.

Really, how can I trust that the other work is really needed?

what you didnt add was did the hvac company fit a genuine filter .nope. thats why merc quoted you on a new one .they also would have made you sign an indemnity on collection stating the filter was not fitted by them .

I never touch any of my cars engines or parts. The whole point of buying it new is so I don’t have to care what they do to it it must just work. It’s also why I tend to sell before the maintenance plan is up.

I hear what you're saying, but calling an OEM part 'generic' or poor quality because it's supplied by someone other than the dealer is not accurate.

talking generics not oem manufacturers.products in unknown boxes with unknown names.show me one dealership that has any generic part in generic boxes on the shelf .nope .not gonna happen .the liability is too high .even some oem brands im cautious with .if it comes back im liable and costs me money .if i fit a non original part into a critical items place and a person dies im in deep kak .

I don't think anyone is arguing that dealerships supply pirate parts. We're arguing that dealerships often charge inflated prices for OEM parts with their logo on the box - often referred to as "original parts".
Re: the bold part - how so? If you're a dealership and you're fitting pirate parts, shame on you, but the way I understand it, dealers are allowed to fit approved OEM parts and offer the same warranty as the badged part.

OEMs make original parts. They supply the manufacturers. The hint is in the name Original Equipment Manufacturer.
Though I'm sure you're aware of that.

theres a lot more to parts than meets the eye .i carry a 15bar liability cover.if i use original parts and its installed to manufacturers spec and it fails the manufacturers liability comes in .if i fit a generic as a substitute and someone dies im liable .if that part doesnt have the original equipment manufacturers part number on it its not an original part .by fitting generic you are taking full responibility for the product .as the owner of the vehicle you take full responsibility for your actions and what you fit .but me ...even in my own cars i only fit original parts ,i dont even bother going to the corner parts shop ,straight to the agent .costs more ? sometimes ,piece of mind ..yes .some say but its C E Approved .CE is an approval .the other means China Export (note the gap) .look at what you buy next time ,look on box its an eye opener .

But why should I buy a part from the dealership for R3500 when I can get the dealership approved OEM part (the identical part without the vehicle manufacturers badge on the box) from another distributor for R1800?

a valid question .is it really the same thing .cant answer you .is it cheaper because of the branding ,maybe , i see oem parts last half the time the original part lasted .why .dont know .why do you get 400 00km from an original clutch kit but only 280 000 from an oem .cant answer that either .the oem market is huge lots of manufacturers but is the product you get the same?

They trained you well in the laws and logic of stealership.
I’ve always chosen high quality aftermarket parts if available and have yet to have a failure. That’s from water pumps to cambelts, clutches to gearbox oil.
