Hello everyone
My steam doesn't seem to download constantly, it downloads in bursts or segments.

Does anyone know what i can do to fix this?
I have tried playing around with the download regions with minimal luck, some parts don't even let my download start.

Thanks in advance :)

oh P.S : I'm on a 1 meg line.

I've had that problem since as long as I can remember and been with many a different ISP. Hasn't bothered me that much. Seeing as you're on a 1MB line I'm sure those 400KB/s bursts make up for the small dead segments.

Pretty sure mine bursts aswell. But when it bursts, it bursts over and above the capability of my line speed.

I get like 200kB/s on a 1Mbps line :wtf:

I have the same thing, I think it downloads constantly it's just the maths that is going all screwy or it updates too slowly.

I'm pretty sure that it is downloading all the time. At least, that is exactly what mine looks like and it is working fine.

If you're on Windows 7/8 then press Windows Key + R and type in: resmon

This will open up the Resource Monitor and it will let you see how fast programs are downloading in the Network tab. (You probably want to look at the graph on the right for accurate real-time data, then look at the numbers after it has been running for a while, since sometimes those numbers are the typical bizarre Microsoft ones when you start it up.)

Go play with your Steam settings and see which Steam server you're downloading from.

I had a similar issue, check this thread for the details http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/582117-Telkom-Uncapped-Problem/page2

A reinstall seemed to do the trick for a while (just make sure to backup your games before you try this), but then I was back to square one again after a while :(

When I get back home from work I am gonna mess around with it again. I also came across this thread this morning which also had some suggestions http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/322111-Steam-Game-updating-problems

Also another thing I noticed at one point, Steam was showing bursts of 400-500KB/s with my 2mb line :wtf: I highly doubt this is possible. My network monitor was showing ~180KB/s at these "burst" stages. So I dunno how accurate the Steam bandwidth speed monitor is...

Steam's download speed readings have never been known to be particularly accurate. Use resource monitor to check actual speed. Odds are it's working as it should.

I was using a resource monitor, downloads were very intermittent and spiky. I tried three different games too, so wasn't just like it was the one. Tried it on a different ISP, even took my desktop to a different line. Same thing.

Gah! I fooled around with the download limiter. There was a limit set I thought that the "between hours" box had to be checked for the limiter to be active :wtf:

Working now!

Was that limiter on by default? If so I can see why we all have the problem.

Not on by default (when I say I fooled around, I was checking it out and didn't set the limit back to "no limit" when I was done - I just unchecked the checkbox) but the checkbox is a positioned in such a manner that I assumed it HAD to be checked for the limiter to be active. Maybe I was just being a dumbass but whatevs... At least mine is sorted.

I am having the issue and I'm with OpenWeb. We mentioning the speed issues on the OpenWeb thread, everyone is struggling.
